DIY - Daizen Caster Arm Bushing Installation - lots of pics!
#181
I was just replaced about everything in the suspension but this. The car seems kind of loose going over bumps and rough roads and I want to attack this DIY. I have a couple questions. How have the roca bushings worked out for anyone who has used them? Did you run into the same issues of lining up with the bolt holes like with the daizen bushings? With the DIY instruction did it still take you all 3.5 hours?

I took me quite a bit of time but eventually they came out. Be careful not to apply too much heat directly to the arm itself as you want to avoid warping the arm. I used the a torch from Harbor Freight that hooks up to your BBQ torch.

I remember reading this thread some time ago but didn't realize all the issues with the Daizen No.2 bushings.. I have this complete kit which now I'll probably sell since OEM seems to be better and FIGS new design seems to be more logical with pivoting of the bushing.
I'm thinking of buying the 03-05 complete arms from sewell but part numbers are all the same for all years 98 to 05? Do i need to call them?

Glad to read this lol was about to do entire front end and was going to get daisen... so im still confused about the bushing sets.. I am not sure which all to do.. I saw steering bushing made by daisen and also the 99 set that is the control arnm bushing bit then I was reading thread n it said to do caster bushings..
I am thinking to go with raybestos professional grade after watching their video on engineering details of their chassis parts..ive done of my gs with all oem parts.. and im happy with it but was a pain to tje wallet...plus these raybestos guys give a labor and part guarantee and seem to not use conventional bearings and parts..any one use them in past? Professional grade its called I think .

Thanks for input tmf, I am aware of the rock auto parts link, I actually put together over weekend the list of parts. I was more interested in knowing if anyone has used the raybestos on their GS and any input on performance based on their usage. Also maybe you can provide input if these bushing I have on list are okay or if you all recommend the daisen or other brand. From my understanding from Mike FIGS they don't have any bushings for our GS 01+ application yet.
UPDATE: here is what I bought from RockAuto and the prices are there along with where item was made in. A couple items from AMAZON and SEWELL. Thanks for help guys.

Also asked about the "wholesale cheaper parts" they say they are exactly the same except no 2 year warranty only 30 day warranty they get those from stores that close at a cheaper price and sell cheaper but don't offer warranty, those parts go out from Texas, rest from Wisconsin.
May 2013 coupon code (searched google "Rockauto coupon code") for 5% off: 96788357969687
Also Raybestos tech support at 800-407-9263 they claim that they purchase the parts from the same supplier that Toyota uses in Taiwan (few parts made in Oklahoma), not sure if I completely believe that but who knows.

so guys fyi Raybestos may not be much better but maybe a bit.. i called their tech support and none of our GS parts are made in their "Advanced" technology with blue caps. They only make oem spec basic stuff for our car.. so i guess it's good enough but not the cool stuff in the youtube video. Any one know if others use same technology?
except for Tie Rod ends, these are the advance technology according to the guys I spoke with, and I called twice and both guys said tie rods were advanced tech, rest of parts are not, but same as OE.
Also from reading on some truck forums there's a difference between hot forged and cold forged parts, seems the Raybestos are cold forged and this is better and more time consuming to produce, from my understanding the molecular make up is more consistent when cold forged rather then hot forged so I'm assuming better tinsel strength. Seems Moog has been going bad last few years in performance compared to Raybestos from what I read also.
Professional Grade
Cold-forged rod for superior strength and stability
Performance enhancing low-friction design
Full ball stud maximizes performance surface area
Fused polyurethane dust boot reduces the chance of cracking, splitting, dry rot, and corrosion
Multiple wrench flats for easy installation
RAYBESTOS Warranty Information
RAYBESTOS CHASSIS Professional Grade -24 months/24,000miles. Service Grade - 12 months / 12,000 miles

iamkhanz I said that we are working on them and should have both #1 and #1 bushings in adjustable and static versions with the advanced features from Superpro like lubricating crosshatch in the barrels and grease pockets on the OD as well. I have several applications I have been working on for some time, it just takes a while to stage them into normal production.
