Default Ball joints price

Hey guys I went to my mechanic and he quoted me 300 for just left side. What's the usual price to replace both sides? I need to replace soon so need to know how much it would cost not to get ripped off. Thanks guys. Btw I have a 2000 gs400

lower ball joints cost about 120 shipped from sewell lexus with CL discount code. Installation is simple as removing your wheels and removing 2 bolts, a castle nut, and using a pitman arm (on each side)....then re-torquing the bolts and nut.

I paid 700 in parts from local lexus dealer. Wish I knew about the CL discount at Sewell. That would have helped. I got lower ball joints, caster/#2/control link arms, outer tie rod ends. They are all connected, and on my car, the ball joints and caster arm desparately needed to be replaced. Tie rod ends connect to the same stuff, so what the heck. My labor was about 350 including checking and adjusting the toe in. Rides, handles, steers like new again.

I have a 2002 GS300 with 150K miles. My local dealer quoted me $700.00 for each ball joint and $800 for each upper control arms. He actually said, "This can't be right!" I have always taken my car to the dealer since mile 0 and have always gotten a break. At these prices I am going to pick up a 2008 550i sport 6 speed.

I got a nice break on mine when I replaced them awhile back. $140 for both sides. I put them in myself. Pitman arm puller was the only other thing I needed to buy and it costs just $10 at AutoZone.

Just do it yourself. Even the mechanically challenged could do it with some of the great write-ups on this forum.

$140 for OEM. Looks like I will have to do the work myself. How about the upper controller arms?

Upper control arms shouldn't be tough at all, especially since you need to use the same balljoint puller for the lower balljoints.

Definitely a DIY'able job.

So after I got my inspection done I asked the mechanic to check the balljoints. And I thought I would need the lower ball joints replaced. But he said I need upper ball joints done. And he quoted me 700 for both sides. That's including work. My question is can it be the upper ball joints or is it the lower ones that fail on the 2 gs?

I got a 01, i need to do my upper, right side also. it's gonna cost about that, unless you go to the ghetto, and bargain with the shops there. Labor's cheaper in hood. That should save you a lot.

And i don't think aftermarket makes these. Maybe order from Sewell like these guys are saying. I recall you stated that you have the "estimate" from a shop right? If you have that, just order the part yourself, and then hit up several shops in the hood for a price for "labor only."

It's an easy fix, any shop can do it.

Good luck with this.

labors cheap there as ALOT of the shops in the "hood" dont know anything more than the morons at autozone.

STAY AWAY FROM SOME STUPID SHOP TRYING TO SAVE LABOR ON THIS GUYS....in the long run if they mess something up it just wont be worth it
