I currently have the 17" 5 spoke GS wheels, and recently purchased Supra TT calipers. I hear spacers mentioned several times above. Can someone tell me what size??

5MM, 10MM??

Thanks,

Yes, GS rotors are not large enough, you have to use Supra TT rotors.

Default Will 18" 2IS Wheels fit 2GS with Supra TT Calipers w/o Spacers?

I know I'm reviving an old thread, but I've searched and can't find a definitive answer for the 2GS (but lots of info on the SC).

I have a 2000 GS400. I want to upgrade the front brakes with Supra TT calipers. Will any of the18 inch 2IS wheels fit without spacers? I've read some people say that they should fit, others say that a 5mm spacer is needed. How about 19 inch IS-F wheels?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike...

I did this exact set up on my 01 gs 430. The wheels I used were off an 08 is 350. Out was very close but no spacer was needed. I do believe those wheels are staggered... 18¤8 front 18¤8.5 rear. it works, I did it. Good luck.

Thanks for letting me know Erik.

Does anybody know if there are any 18 inch 2IS wheels that will clear Supra TT Calipers with a good amount of room (at least 3mm) without spacers or are all of them going to be really close? How about 3GS 18 inch wheels? What is the recommended amount of caliper clearance for safety?

Default Japanese Tuning in Plain English

The LS brakes are an improvement but they aren't comparable to the SupraTT brakes. The TT brake calipers are much bigger and they mount further from the center hub on a larger radius or meaning their mount location is for a larger 13.25" diameter rotor. IMPO... Recommended clearance would be what fits without touching. The clearance between the wheel and the brake caliper, once mounted, will never change. Unless the wheel gets bent or the caliper comes loose. (this does not include the "Pull Type" calipers which have the piston(s) on one side of the caliper) So, if you have clearance... then you will safely have clearance.

Careful...Wheel offsets alone won't assure fitment for big brake calipers. Brake caliper clearance is determined by the style of the wheel or the shape of the "face" (center section of the wheel). JDM wheels generally categorize the shape or the different curvatures of the face with letters like, "L", 'M", "N", "O", "P". Not necessarily those letters, but understand that one style of wheel can offer different curvatures of the face in addition to the different offsets and sizes offered. Its the backside of the wheel face that will interfere with the face of a large brake caliper, not the offset.

Another clearance problem to be aware of, will be the location of the "drop center" section. This is the smaller diameter section of a wheel that allows for the installation/removal of a tire, which can interfere with the top of the caliper, rather than the face of the caliper. Depending on the location of the "drop center", balance weights stuck on the inside of the wheels can also hit the top of the calipers even if the drop center clears. I've come across this problem many times and its always after the damage has been done and this usually requires the wheels to be rebalanced.

Probably should clarify which wheels as well. Think just a typo but you mention is250 which don't have big brakes like the is350
