Iwas given a tire gauge last Christmas. Sears, but looks the same as the one in the Tirerack.com ad. (car and driver feb 02). Cost about $25, digital, gives me the impression of quality, nearest half pound, easy to use, lighted display.

Thumbs up Good Choice

Neil's right. The recent issue of Consumer Reports rated tire gauges & found the Accu gauge as a "best buy". Sears sells it as well as Griot's Garage ( $19.95 ) so where ever U can find the best price, grab one!

I saw the CR article also.

I personally favor the dial type with a hose and bleed button. Let's me get to the valve easier, and great for bleeding the tires at the track. I got a new one for Christmas from Restoration Hardware, the chain store that sells vintage tools and gizmos.

Default One vote for hose and bleed

Qbranch makes a great point – the hose and bleed button are both really handy. I’ve used this type before. The hose is easier to get securely onto the valve stem and bleeding excess pressure while still monitoring the gauge is really the most useful design.

Incidentally, I'm using a digital now and while it is more accurate, it’s not as easy to use, especially when you overfill and need to bleed off some lbs. My .35 cents worth.
