Default Need some input on painting brake calipers

I am wanting to paint my brake calipers black. I also want to add the Lexus decals over the paint. I want to put a coat of clear over the caliper so that the stickers don't fall off. I have heard that some people have seen a yellowing of the clear after time. I would like to put White stickers on it but not if they will start to yellow after time, I don't want to do it. I guess I could use yellow stickers but I would prefer the white since my car is white. Can anyone say whether they have had this problem of yellowing or not. Also, if you have had good luck and the clear hasn't yellowed, what brand of clear did you use. Thank you for the help.

Sorry if this has already been asked, I can't find the exact answer in the search. I am new on this site.

Welcome to CL sorry I don't have a good answer for you but I'll bump this back to the top and hopefully someone with experience can chime in.

I'm kinda curious about this since you brought it up, I'd been thinking about doing some kind of sticker if I do the Supra TT brakes and want to be as well informed as possible before doing anything.

Thanks for the reply Kyle. I am in the same boat. I don't feel like having to fix it a year down the road. I heard about some people not using a clear coat but I don't see how the stickers would be permanent. Hopefully someone who has done this a while back can help.

My son did this on his IS. It has been a few months and they are still white. He did the black paint, then the decals, then the clear coat. It took a weekend to do as you have to clean everything first and let the paint dry. I'll ask what type of paint when he comes home.

I would appreciate it. I am just trying to avoid having to fix things in the future.

well what i would do is paint the calipers black dry them than mask them off put the sticker on and carefully trace the sticker on to the masking with a thin Sharpe marker then with a razor blade carefully cut the design out, then paint that cut out white with like 5 coats. i don't think i would worry to bad about the clear coat i don't think it would change color at all. hope this helps!!! =)

Duplicolor is the brand my son used. He said they show some small signs of chipping now.

Too soon for me to comment on the yellowing. I did put a chip in my calipers paint right after I bolted them back on after painting. I took a piece of thin card board and cut a small hole in it. I used that as a stencil so that I only got paint on the chipped spot. looks perfect and is invisible unless you are right up close to it.
