I have a set of L-Tuned springs with 13k miles on them for $190 + shipping + paypal. It'll give you 1.5 inch drop all over

that link didn't work for me, and i was wondering the same question that johnball asked. i asked this shop i go about just the tein comfort sports (cs) and he started mentioning all this other stuff that may or may not have to be replaced at the same time...

correct, for some reason the link gsteg provided is invalid.

when installing coilovers, it's a simple swap of the struts: remove/replace. what exactly was your shop telling you that may need to be replaced at the same time?

they were saying that the shocks may need to be replaced at around the same time, and that I may not know until the tein cs's are in place and we test drive it... also he said that my 275 30 20's may scrape or rub badly (they slightly rub with 2 peeps in the back going over bumps currently, with 3 in the back it is funny to drive it as it makes all kinds of noise just going over anything not flat). in which case i would have to do some other stuff to prevent that.

my question to the shop was can i put just the tein cs coilovers on my car with the rims i have now and not have a bad scrape? + not have to replace or add anything else to the equation? + get that slight drop and tighter performance like ride/ feel without it feeling like a drift (stiff) setup???

the answers and possible scenarios the dude gave me back were anywhere from paying an extra 2 grand to replace all kinds of stuff to not being happy with the feel and ride and scrape and eventually wanting to go back to the stock setup i have now... it scared me enough to leave it how it presently is/was...

Tein CS do not lower that much so I doubt you will have too much problem rubbing. They are pretty soft so you're not looking at bone-jarring suspension. Just increase the damper setting so you wouldn't bounce as much. They're stiffer than OEM springs, but not that much stiffer. If you usually drive with passengers in the car, then leave the coilover at the height it is now and try driving around.. Lowering does not always equate to rubbing. How soft the suspension is a big determining factor. If you're at 1 finger gap with super stiff suspension, you're probably not going to rub like your stock setup, despite being 3+ finger-gaps.

I think the shop is giving you a runaround so you can pay them more $$$. Why would they say the shocks may need to be replaced, but they wont know until the tein CS is on the car? You dont use the OEM shocks so why would it matter if they're worn out or not? They're getting tossed out to be replaced with the Tein CS setup.

They're (shocks) getting tossed out to be replaced with the Tein CS setup.
this is what i thought but was a little dumbfounded when the dude started saying this.

so if i got the tein cs with the edfc controller installed this would be all that is required for a slight drop and slight suspension upgrade right? cuz if i was cruising down the highway i could set the damper low so i had a nice smooth ride, but if on the city streets i could increase the damper so it was a tighter driving experience with real low bounce right???

can you think of any added hidden expenses other than the cost of labor + the part itself that might come up with putting in a edfc controller and tein cs coilovers.

is this upgrade even worth it for someone with big heavy 20's? wouldn't this be more beneficial to someone with some lightweight 18's for racing?

Anytime you have heavy 20s, your suspension will be less effective in doing its job. Tein CS might even be too soft for your setup to be honest. You'll still sag in the rear if you have passengers in the back.

Other than the coilover and edfc, there is nothing else to change for lowering.

so basically the edfc + coilovers aren't really even worth the cost in this case?

would air ride suspension be one possible way to get a nice drop while driving in the city and raising it back up while on the highway?

Air suspension is ideal if you want to vary your height at any time. But it takes money and will put some weight on your car.

how much weight you think??? like an extra hundred, or we talking like 300??? I was also told by the same shop that you shouldn't put air ride on your daily driver and that it is not comfortable... is this false as well??

You're going to have the guys on here how much their air suspension weights because I've never measured it.

As for air suspension riding uncomfortable, that's false. Like everything else, some are better than others. I rode in a 1GS with air and it felt very nice. It was damn smooth. I liked it better than stock suspension anyways.

sojah:
1. pls search, as there are numerous threads related to all of your questions (i know having been in your shoes)
2. your shop is giving you b/s to squeeze more $$$ out of you ("they were saying that the shocks may need to be replaced at around the same time, and that I may not know until the tein cs's are in place and we test drive it") now that just smells of b/s
3. you should ask yourself, why do you want coilovers?
4. could you go the cheaper route of s/s combo?
5. why are you now thinking of air? do you know whats involved, incl costs?
7. another suggestion: try to meet up w/other CL'ers in your neck of woods to check out their cars and mods; trust me, that really helps
6. ULTIMATELY, what is the final direction you'd like your car to be? whats the goal of your car?
7. be patient when mod'ing. it can save you $$$ and time. (again trust me, i know...stupid me, went through 3 suspension setups in about 1 year)
