Well you have one in the front right and one front left. Could be one, or both

If you have a multimeter at home, measure the resistance of the speed sensor. The connector is located behind the fender liner. Just pull the plug out and read the resistance. It should be 1.4k-1.8k Ohms. If not, then it's broken. If it falls within the range, then the sensor is good so go try it on the other side.

Hell....if the shop is paying for a new sensor(s), might as well get him to buy new ones

Congrats! It always feels good to repair something yourself, not to mention the cost savings! btw, did you observe any warning signs prior to your ball joint failing?

i have 92k miles on the car and i did have alot of symptoms before they went out. i was actually on my way to move the car into the parking lot across the street from my mechanic so he could fix it the next morning when my ball joints popped.
some of the symptoms i had where hearing strange popping noises coming from the front . like if something was popping out of place. you can also check them out by putting your car up on a lift and lifting ur tires up and if theres alot of movement then you know something is wrong and you need to change them ( i was told this by mechanic so do not hold me to this)
