Default When did your Ball Joints go out???

Just a little curious with my car running on such high mileage...

To those who were unfortunate to have this happen to them, what mileage were you at when had your Ball Joints go out?

Also, does anyone know why the car 'Clunks/Clinks' when the ball joints are about to go out?

Great poll. Now we just need a lot more people to vote honestly.

There's this mechanic that will change them for me for $200.

But I'd still need an alignment after.

I'm installing mine this weekend before they go out. Also installing Bilsteins and Tanabes - should be a whole new beast after the full change out.

I'm hearing a very low clicking sound when i turn my wheels all the way to one direction, could this be the ball joints? I've got an '01 GS430 with only 49,500 miles, Should I just wait till the 60k service to get them changed?

I'm more of an optimist so I'm hoping I don't ever have to experience them "going out" by periodically changing them out. The previous owner changed them which was about 20k miles ago but I still hear clicking noises. I'll probably check on them soon.

i just changed my lower ball joints and outer tie rods cost me about $265 parts came up to about 220 and i gave the shop 45 for labor. the guy was a pro took him less then 2 hours. they told me the ball joints were gone and they were suprised it didnt break thanx to CL i went n got it checked they said i was lucky. so i would get it checked dont take the chance. as a matter of fact the pic in my sig is from when they were changing them the car was on the lift LOL.

I just ordered mine, just waiting to install them, and I'm at 100,050 miles. Got them from Carson, however, I'm hearing people talk about tie rods, do I need to replace that also.

Just changed mine out today. They were changed at 70k and again today at 134k.. No issues. I'll sell the car long before this set is ready for a change!

You don't "need" too. It's simply a nice complimentary maintenence item that you can do at the same time since you need to unbolt the tie rod to remove the ball joint.. I changed mine both out today~!

Get my alignment Thursday when I get back from a work trip and put the 20s back on!
