Default Code = thrown after ball joint failure

So my 98 GS 400 had a ball joint fail on the Drivers side yesterday.

The shop just called, they replaced:

Ball Joints - FR/FL

NOTE - the ABS tire speed senor wire was cut, they soldered it.

They say they cannot do the alignment because the following codes are showing, and what they mean.

C1210 - No learned (adaptation) VSC Sensor/36

C0200 - FR Whell Speed Sensor Malfunction (Cald,Cam, RX3, Cel.)
C1223 - Malfunction in ABS Control System (RX3) / 43

(The c1223 and c0200 are explained here - https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=239647)

& he said "0 point calibrate" - not sure where he got that from.

Anyone know if I need new ABS sensors or what my next steps should be?

Thanks!!!

My question to them is: what would any of that have to do with performing a four-wheel alignment? It seems like you shouldn't even need to have a battery in the car to align it.

If this shop is proficient with the Lexus cars thay should be able to tell you what all that means. Aren't they being paid to troubleshoot?

I wish I could be more help. It just seems like if you seek professional help they should act professionally!

That is utter bullsh|t. Your toe and camber does not depend on whether your ABS sensors are working or not. In fact, most alignments are done with the car off.

Is this an alignment shop, or a mechanic shop that happens to have an alignment rack? If the latter, then they're possibly trying to get you to do some mechanical work so they can make money off of you.

Here is what they have said about the alignment:

"We do not want to do the alignment until I replace the Tire(s). The Driversside front tire was destroyed when the ball joint failed."

They requested I replace the tire or both front tires, and then return the car to have the tire rods checked/replaced and do the alignment.

Here is where I am having the service done - www.passportmotors.com

I called the lexus dealer near me - Park Place Lexus (http://www.parkplaceplano.com)

They quoted $129.95 for an alignment, I might just pick the car up and take it to them.

Chris.. sorry to stalk you I am just very intrigued by your mis-fortune.. sorry.

Did they check to make sure that your outer and INNER tie rods are okay? Did they check your rack? I am sure that the tire/rim going the way they went put a lot of strain on everything.

"technically" they don't 'need' to do an alignment when replacing ball joints, just when replacing the tie-rods. did they replace those? if stuff is out of place and needing an alignment, i'd make sure they replaced those things, as stuff like tie rods that need to be re-adjusted are probably bent.

Sounds to me like all those codes are related to the abs, could it be a speed sensor all in one? I'd et that replaced and see what happens.

Gotcha,

I am going to pickup the car in a bit and take the speed sensors out and inspect them.

They soldered the FL sensor where the wheel ripped the wire as the ball joint broke, maybe they did it wrong.

Looking for a good place to buy sensors just in case now..

I think ou can only buy a whole new abs harness, it's like $200, and a dealer only part.

wow.. great tips. thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. i just hope i can do mine well too. thanks again. I just bought ABS at ******************.

NOTE: An "ABS" or "VSS" code is no indication that these components are faulty. The code serves to inform a technician that the values from these sensors is out-of-range for the conditions surrounding vehicle operation at the time the code is set.
