You want to replace both at the same time usually. Anything I ever do to one side you might as well get the othe side out of the way because it won't be too far behind the one you replace on giving out

How many miles are on your car? And have you ever replaced the #2 lower control arm bushings?
BTW: Are you ok? And how much damage did your car sustain?

You might want to look into changing them along with the rest of your components like sway bar endlinks, inner and outer tie rods, control arm bushings, etc....

ughh....just found out today my upper ball joints have play and the lower ball joints have none. there is heavy creaking every so often on the driver side tho. Can it be a bad lower ball joint if there is no play????

Guys, Moog balljoints (with greasable zerk fittings) are on RockAuto.com for $35 a pop. Just replace them!

From a preventative stance, what else would be able to be changed at this same time to minimize labor.

Honestly, do both upper & lower ball joints + the inner & outer tire rods. If you really want to save money on labor replace your shocks and strut mounts while you're at it especially if you have any signs of them being worn.

My LBJ went out while I was on my way to work a year ago & looked just like the OPs. I had just read about the problem the night before not knowing what horror I was in for the next morning.

I am getting some noises/creeking when I back up and turn. I have a 04 430 with only 44k miles. Is it possible that these need replacing with this low of miles? Is there a way to know they are worn out for sure?

I'd like to know this as well. I just bought an 01 GS430 with 45k, always garaged. For piece of mind I am going to order the MOOG lowers, but wanted to see if there were any suggestions for changing out other parts at the same time just due to the age.

Can I use a pitman arm puller to press out the lower ball joint? And then the cars weight to press it back into place?
