That f***in sucks. Only a recall would be set into play when somebody dies, a shame that "what if" doesnt matter. I was a turn away from gettin on the highway and "V8'ting" it to work. I got pics of mines coming for u guys. Shi* looks exactly like my boy Trans, fender, wheel, even the dust...crazy, I kno.

Do you have the pics ? I would really like to see a close up of the failure..

I wont be saying anything that hasn't already been said - that f'in sucks. As far as a recall though, I don't think we can expect Lexus to issue a recall on parts that have been on the road for as many years as they have been. Lexus needs to make people aware of the limited life of certain parts, but it is our responsibility as owners to make ourselves aware. For example, its one thing to have a tire separate because of some defect, its another thing for a tire to fail because of overuse.... Anyway, it does blow nonetheless, and I do hope that no one ever ends up getting killed because of this.

Lexus or some aftermarket company like Meyle for BMW should design stronger ball joints for the 2nd gen GS. Stronger with a less likelihood of failure. Here is the Meyle ball joints for BMW.

Would like to see that myself. In the meantime, here is the technical bulletin on how to inspect Lexus balljoints.

Yeah...its a really good idea to have them changed. Don't even waste you time having them checked. I paid $700 to have both of mine changed after the passenger side went on me at work. If it wasn't for my new friend Eddie, the tow guy, I would have been sitting side ways in a daze.

this topic has been discussed so many times...if you've got over 100K miles on your 2nd Gen GS...get the front end suspension checked out by a qualified mechanic...i changed my lower balljoints last year and my uppers just a few weeks ago...and while you're at it...might as well swap in some Daizen sway bushings/steering rack bushings/control arm bushings...i've seen and heard too many stories of the front wheels coming off while driving...worst if it happens on the highway...this is preventable so don't get lazy with preventative maintenance guys!

Just ordered some (2) and a inner tie end (1) from Sewell...

I'm kicking myself for not ordering outer tie ends (2) too and another inner tie end (1).

We'll see how the install goes with just the balljoints first and that one inner tie end.

Does the inner ties go bad often? I talked to the Toyota guy about my tundra and he said they have never replaced on on the Tundras..???
