Default Brake failure while driving!!!

I have a 1999 GS 400, Yesterday I was driving and went to press the brakes and my pedal went to the floor, and the car wouldnt stop. I managed to sling it in a church yard and pressed the emergency brakes to stop. When I got out and looked there was brake fluid running in the inside of the front driver side rim. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of what I should do.

It wasnt a brake line failure, yesterday my dad check it and the person who did my brakes last left one of the screws out of the caliper. So when I hit a bump the caliper popped up and the piston came out of it. I couldnt find the piston piece for sale so I had to buy a whole new caliper. Now when I drive down the road and go to brake my car is making a really bad squealing noise. Anyone have any suggestions.

Your brake lines probably failed. Check it to confirm. A new line should cost about $40 from the dealer.

145k is alot for brake lines. Some live in harsher conditions than others, but it is a rubber hoses, and over time, rubber hoses tend to swell, crack, or bust.

Sucks to have it happen, especially when driving fast, but its a maintenance item that shouldn't be overlooked.

When the brakes were changed out, the brake lines should have been inspected for wear.

Who changed your brakes for you? If it was an inexperienced person, that person may have left your caliper hanging from the brake line when they removed it from your car.

Actually SS lines have a chance of failure as well. At the crimped ends is where it will usually happen. Many people believe SS lines are bulletproof, but they still do have weak points.

Trouble-T, you said you had to refill your brake fluid? You should NEVER have to refill the brake fluid. It never dries up. The only time the fluid level will go down is if you have a leak.

True, but rubber lines have more possible negatives.

If you were adding brake fluid that should have been a clue. My guess is you had a pin hole leak, that exploded when you went to hit the brakes and lost all brake fluid.

I had a stainless steel line fail on me because it was rubbing the tire and had a pinhole leak, failed at the race track while braking from 100mph...THAT became interesting...
