Strange fitment with OEM-size brake job
I bought new x/s rotors from Sportbrakes.com (they did the machining from Brembo blanks) and Akebono ProACT ceramic pads from Overnightautoparts.com less than 2 mos. ago for my GS400. Keep in mind I purchased these same exact rotors from the same on-line store about 2 years ago and fitment was not an issue! For the problem...
When I received all the parts I was going to do the install myself but figured just have my local shop do it. When I got the car back I noticed an annoying squeeling sound coming from the front mainly while turning at lower speeds (they were quiet when brakes were applied). I got out and visually inspected the front brakes and noticed that their was a 1/2" perfect line on the outside edge of the rotor that was untouched by the pad! The rest of the rotor was smooth from the break-in procedure that the shop did. I brought the car back to the shop and asked for them to re-inspect the brake install. They said that either the rotors are too big or the pads are too small. Since then I contact both companies that I purchased the rotors and pads from and both say they are OEM sized for the a 2000 Lexus GS400. I didn't think this was a problem right away because I figured that the pads needed to be broken-in on the rotors but it's been almost 2 mos. now! I don't know what to do and I feel that this ill-fitment shouldn't be ...any suggestions guys? I will post pics as soon as I can to clarify my point.

Not from the rotor hub from the outside edge of the rotor! There is a very visable 1/2" ring that has not been worn/touched by the pads! If it was on the inside of the rotor I wouldn't care that much. I would think that the pad contact area should stop exactly at the outer edge of the rotor but mine doesn't. The pads went to the edge of my previous setup (Brembo x/s and Axxis Metal Masters) and fit perectly. Any suggestions Gsteg??? Thanks

Take a pic cause now i'm confused. The pads make contact down to the hub but the uppermost part of the rotor extends out another 1/2"?
Just my opinion but as long as the pads are making 100% contact you should be fine in terms of braking power.

if the rotor is too small then there would be more than the untouched 1/2. if the rotor is too big then there would not be any clearance for the calipers.
check to see if your pistons are not seized or else it will cause the squeeling sound when you drive and when you brake, it goes away.
if you looked at the brake pads, sometimes i the look like this slopes on the edge of them but i cannot say if this is your issue.
