Default Tein Super Street Damper question.

Does anyone have first-hand experience with Tein Super Street Dampers on a GS400? Tein part number DSY98-KUSS2. Priced around $950. These are the ones that re-use your original upper mounts. Would appreciate talking to someone who has used these on a GS400. Thank you very much.

Yes. I went ahead and bought a set of the Tein SS dampers from Direct Tuning ($950 delivered). They will be here tomorrow, and I plan on installing them Saturday. I'll follow-up with the results.

Great! I'm considering these coilvers. I'm looking for performance comparable to the TEIN Flex, but with the quietness of the TEIN CS (since the TEIN SS uses the stock upper mount).

I'm looking for input on the ride quality of the Tein SS. Have you had any experience with the CS and the Flex? If so, how does the SS compare?

OK - Have put about 300 miles on the new TEIN SS coilovers. First impression was VERY nice. Set the height according to the TEIN instructions. Set damping to 4 out of 16 as recommended. The car handles amazingly well when driving aggressively and the faster you go the better it gets. A total transformation from stock, and a ****load better than with lowering springs and stock struts. Tried setting the dampening to 8 and the ride was really too stiff for in-town driving and rough city streets. On smooth surfaces the handling is AWESOME. Ended up setting the dampening on 3 out of 16 for best over-all result. Here's a few notes:

PLUSSES:

TEIN SS Dampers cost me $950.
Received kit very well packaged.
Everything was very high quality.
Assembling the coil-overs is a breeze, no spring compressor required.
Coil-over is shorter than the stock shock, which is nice when jacking the car off the ground (not as much down travel).
Adjusting spanners were included.
Nice finish on the springs.
The tab on the front shocks for the speed sensor mount was welded on the shock in the exact right spot.
Very easy to adjust the height and dampening. No tools need to set the damping because the adjusting **** has a knurled finish.
Have not had any trouble with the coil-overs bottoming out (nice).

MINUSES:

The rear shock mounting eyelet was too narrow to fit properly in the lower control arm, and I had to add washers on the sides, approx 3mm total.
Spring rate (780 pounds/inch in front) is considerably higher than stock, and is in fact pretty stiff, and the ride isn't going to be appreciated by everyone (wife, in-laws,etc). That's a good way to keep them out of your GS400.
Ride on poor road surfaces and rough city streets is not the best.

Other - Discovered a trick for removing those plastic rivets on the trunk liner: Put a cheap tie-wrap (cable tie) through the slotted hole and pull straight out with your finger. See picture.

Good to hear that you are pleased with them...I will be using this setup as well.

Have you tried the softest and hardest rebound settings? If so, how does the ride feel?

Have driven approx 100 miles on "0", 100 miles on "4", and 100 miles on "8". When set on zero the ride was a whole bunch softer, and more tolerable on rough streets, but the car has a little float at faster speeds. Set on 8, you will feel every crack in the road. Never tried settings higher than 8. 3-4 seems to be a really good compromise. I'm confident you will be amazed at the over-all performance of the TEIN SS. But beware the ride is CONSIDERABLY stiffer due to the 780 lb springs. Bottom line - I really like the result. Also - Ride height is very nice (TEIN SS is designed for 2 inch nominal drop).
Also note- I'm using stock 16 inch wheels and tire size.
