Woohoo! My Akebono ceramic brakes came in. Doing this tomorrow as my best friend is coming over who happens to be a top shelf mechanic also. This is a guy you'll rarely meet in life and if you do becomes friends with the likes of people like him you've won the lottery in life.
He never asked for money in repairing any of my cars. Once he used my Sienna to move and I told him to go slow as the tires were bald and I hadn't had time to change them. After returning my car the next morning I came out to take the Sienna out for some errands and what do I smell? Rubber. My friend had put on a new set of tires. Whenever he comes over to fix cars it's always fun. Learn a lot.

Wow. That was the easiest brake pad replacement ever. Done in 30-40 min. Thanks to the OP form the diy.
Did the back ones too. Pretty easy. Saved at least $350 from having someone like Midas doing it. A good day.

drive around for a week, then let us know what you think compared to your original.
BTW, I would have run those old pads a lot longer before replacing (but I'm real cheap).

Had a mom & pop shop did that for $50 labor.
Akebono is the wsy to go.

I ordered the low dust is350 brake pads and the shims. Does anyone know why the shim kit has 8 shims? Obviously 4 of them are a little thicker than the other 4, but is they any reason I should use one over the other? Also I see that 2 of the 4 brake pads have a metal clip on them. The 2 in the middle of the image below. When I remove the old ones, will I see the original ones have this same clip so I know if they go on the inside or outside of the rotor?

The pads with the wear indicator go on the inside, the ones without go one the outside. Use all the shims as per my reply to your other thread.

I can confirm this DIY works for the 3rd gen IS350 Fsport as well. Just replaced my fronts after 25K miles. tired of the brake dust, got the akebono ACT1118 pads. Reused all of the shims from the original pads as well, and applied lube to each layer.

Also took the time to wash my rims and apply some collinite 845 wax to it.

I was wondering if I put is350 front brakes on my is250 they would not dust as much? Or do the is350 brakes dust WAY TOO much also?

The dust created is caused by the type if pad you purchase. Some pads naturally will create more dust. Some more high performance pads will dust more. Or cheap poo poo pads will as well. Try to find a happy medium. Or if youre strictly looking for little to no dust , look for a brand stating as such.

As I had posted previously, the IS250 and IS350 use the same pad material (depending on year/country) and the IS350 caliper tends to deposit more of it onto the wheels. If you are looking for low dust, change your pads for sure.
