I didn't need to remove the calipers, just the hardware. It is a very easy job.

I went through several pages but it doesn't seem like you used the Fit Kit. Did you re-use fit kit parts as well?
I am about to do my brakes for the first time at just over 116,000 miles. I never did the TSIB for the low dust pads.
There's a chance they changed the brakes before I bought the car, at ~23,000 miles but even still, 90,000 miles is pretty nice.

Hmmm... OK, thanks. I ask because I called up the dealer, and they want only $90 in labor to change the pads, which is worth it to me, except they say that they replace the shims while they're at it. I was thinking of asking them if they could re-use the same shims, but I suspect there might be extra labor charges to clean and re-use them which would cancel out the cost of shims.
I replaced the front pads myself a couple years ago and re-used the shims, but they were getting dirty and beaten, so I don't know if it would be such a bad idea to replace them at this point (~7.5 years and 83K miles).
... When I did the job, I also lost that little hair-pin like thing that holds the brake pad spring in place and replaced it with a paper clip, haha. I hope they don't want to replace my whole brake fit kit as a result...

Thanks for the great DIY. My newly acquired IS350 had really bad squealing fronts. I used your DIY and replaced the stock front pads with Centric Posi-quiet pads in 45min. Easiest brake job I ever did & my squeal is gone.

Thanks for this great write up. I had never changed brake pads before and did the front pads on mine this past weekend and everything went smoothly.
Also had fun bedding them at 2am with no traffic. Just glad no cops were watching.

What's the torque on the caliper bolts? 68 ft-lbs? Thanks.

I read it is 58 ft-lbs. Whoever owned this IS350 before me skimped on the anti-squeel shim plate and eliminated it! You cheap bs. Hence the brakes were squeeling. Gotta get some.
