I tried searching for it (or any other rotor replacement info), but no luck.
+1 What is the torque spec for the caliper bolts?

And does the battery need to be disconnected on the IS350 when swapping pads?

thanks for the DIY guide. I used the rear brake guide earlier this year to change my rear pads. Last weekend I cleaned up my front pads and shims because they were making a terrible noise for weeks. Fronts still had a lot of depth but had so much grime on them. Cleaned them up with brake cleaner, put new anti squeal grease on it, noise is gone.

You dont need to disconnect the battery for just a pad swap.

Great DIY!. I did this myself also. It was very easy. Mine is a 2008 IS350. I recently changed my brake pads with the original ones. I keep getting a loud squeal when breaking. I haven't resurfaced the rotors. Also. sometimes when i brake slowly into a stopping light my wheel turns a little to the right. Maybe a stuck caliper? Any insights? Thanks in advance!

Smile Few doubts

Would be glad if someone answered these questions.

Off late have been getting heavy squealing noises from the front brakes while moving the car early in the morning and once in a while in highway drives while coming close to a stop.

1) Does this mean my brake pads need replacement ?
2) Do I need to replace my shims ?
3) Mine is the 2010 IS 300 similar to IS 250/350 , so is this DIY same for my vehicle as well ?
4) When exactly do we need to flush the brake fluids ? I have done 51,000 Km.

How do you decompress pistons after new pads are in? Thanks!

Great DIY! Did it tonight and took me 30 mins for front pad replacement. I went with Stoptech street performance pads. How much does Lexus charge to replace front pads? Btw no more squeeking backing up and bite is more linear.

if the pads still have thickness but are squealing just clean the pads off with brake cleaner and put new anti squeal grease. Happened to me and the squealing stopped.

Javier,
Just completed installing front and back brakes. Thank you for your tremendous writeup on installing the front brakes. The front installation was so easy, with your help, that I decided to tackle the rear as well. Thank you again!

Glad this DIY is still helping people 6 1/2 years after I wrote it! I got a few questions through PM about this thread so I'll try to answer them...

1) Not necessarily. Noise shouldn't determine whether you need new brake pads or not, pad thickness does. 4TehNguyen gave some good advice up above on stopping squealing noises you may have if you don't need new brake pads.
2) Depends on the condition of the shims. If they're not damaged or worn, there's no reason to replace them.
3) I think the IS300s have brakes similar to the US IS250. You'll be able to tell immediately which brake DIY you need. The IS250 DIY is here if you need it.
4) The service manual calls for replacing the brake fluid every 36 months or 30,000 miles, but it's a good idea to visually check it more frequently. If gets really dark, or you start feeling some mushiness when depressing the brake pedal, it's time for fresh fluid.

Hope this helps!

Javy
