Default brake problem

I have just bought a 98 GS 400 from a gentlemen in PA. When I received the car today, I noticed the brake pedal goes almost all the way down before engaging the pads to the rotors. Is this because the car has been sitting for a bit or has someting gone wrong?

My suspect would be air in the system.

Your best to go to a dealer, Lexus or Toyota, and have the system bled. They have the service tool needed to activate the solenoids in the brake ABS pump to completely evacuate the air.

is there a way to do it yourself without the service tool? In my other cars before, we would just use a brake bleeder kit. But it sounds like for lexus cars there is a special tool? thanks!

i recently bought and used a brake bleeder hose from pep boys, by far the easiest and cleanest way to bleed brakes without the help from another person.
