Default Confused about Tein SS Upper mounts

Hi. I’ve done lots of searching here on Tein SS and am a little confused about the upper mounts. I read in one thread that they come with hard rubber upper mounts but the set I am looking at buying says that they come with pillow ball mounts – which I thought were only available as metal items (which I don’t want). Do pillow ball mounts come in rubber or have I misunderstood something?

pillow ball mounts are basically camber plates w/ a rubber mount, hence the pillow. Get the pillow ball uppermounts, they help out alot.

Wow! They are being advertised as: "TEIN Super Street (Coilover Kits) With pillow upper mounts. Mounts compatible with EDFC. Not suitable for REAS equipped vehicles." I'll ask them to confirm.

he's right, tein doesnt make the pillow ball upper mounts for a supra, but they do for other cars. They dont have a set specifically for the sc.

pillow mounts = noisy, harsh, and potentially damaging to your car's chassis.

I have read noisy and harsh in various threads, but not 'damaging'. Why so?

not exactly true.

eibach w/ factory upper mounts: sloppy ride, felt cheap/loose whatever...

supra springs w/ tien pillowball mounts: very solid. consistent over road imperfections. much quieter than the previous setup

eibach w/ tien pillowball mounts: again solid feel. some noise but not as bad as with the factory upper mount

note:spirited driving over bumps, dips, poorly maintained roads....etc. daizen urethane bushings all around w/ supra lower control arms. and tien uppermounts were used with illumina shocks

i think the noise may have more to do with the way the springs is designed. top three coils of the eibach springs are compressed to solid. coils of the supra springs do not touch each other when compressed. just swapped to eibach springs in front a few days ago. still need to do some more driving before i can comment anymore on it.

Default Quick question

I really need to replace my upper shock mounts in the front of my SC300 because I installed the Trd strut bar w/spacers and now I pretty much have no thread left. I have the tein ss made for the supra's on my vehicle right now, but i don't know whether or not the tein upper pillowball mounts will fit, or even is their studs are long enough to clear the strut tower bar.

Should I get these Tein pilllowball mounts for 93-98 Supra
1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tein-...spagenameZWD1V

or HKS mounts for SC300/400
2.http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/i.../8/class_9/422

Any information would be a +
