Question '99 GS400 Braking System problem

Help - I just found this forum, and was looking for some advice. My stock 1999 GS400 has an electrical problem with the braking system. The normal braking works fine, but the symptoms are:
* No brake lights come on
* have to push manual trans lock overide to get out of park
* VSC, ABS & VSC OFF warning lights remain illuminated in inst. cluster
* center console VSC switch doesn't impact "VSC off" light

I checked the obvious fuses noted in the owners manual, and all looked fine. I'm suspecting a sensor switch or module, as all functional symptoms act like it isn't recognizing me applying the brakes (park lock, no lights, etc.).

I couldn't get a service reservation at the dealer until late next week, so was looking for some advice here. Thanks for any ideas you may have!

Brake light switch under dash is either loose, sticking plunger, needs adjustment or is bad. It's a standard Toyota/Lexus part that any parts store carries or can order for less than $20. Call your parts store.

Just unplug the wiring harness and remove the nut that holds it on. Good luck!!

Thumbs up

I'm back on the road! Even with my clumsy fuse-loosin fingers, the replacement brake switch did the trick, and all is well - local Lexus dealer lost some easy money, and Csaxon's help saved me some money - Thanks Csaxon!
