Brake pads..Lexus says change, Toyota says no.
I took my car to the dealer last week to get it checked for a few things. They said front brake pads were at 2/32 and rear at 3/32 and both needed to be changed. Not knowing what those figures really mean, I ordered parts from lexus-parts and took the car to a local Toyota dealer to change. Toyota called today saying they weren't going to change the pads since I have 80% left on the front and 80% on the rear.
What gives? was Lexus trying to make a quick buck here, or is Toyota missing something?
(2002 GS300, 48k miles. bought recently.)

I will get a third opinion.
And I'll take some pics this weekend, but trust me...my car is pretty bland looking compared to all the ones I've seen on this site..Just plain on stock, OEM stuff all around.
Will post pics nevertheless.
thanks!

For your reference..
I have a 99 GS400 picked up at 70k miles. I am at about 80 k now. Looks like someone did the fronts already, but I'm having the rotors trued today since it has a little pulsation braking lightly from high speed. I am about to run over and pick up the rotors now.
On the rears, I started hearing the wear indicators scraping around 79k and just changed them out last weekend, with a fresh rear rotor surface. Those pads were gone and not much longer until it was metal to metal! One side on the same wheel did have more pad left though, I expected them to wear equally on the same wheel..
So if your car has only 48k on it, doesn't seem like you would need rear pads. Might need fronts if you drive or brake aggressively but you could hold out a bit probably unless you have some symptoms as mentioned above.

correction...According to Lexus, fronts are at 3/32 and rears at 2/32
Pics attached of the front pads. to me they look pretty worn down, but if you can let me know what you think, that would be great. Thanks!

Toyota dealer's wrong...quite wrong.
You don't need immediate replacement, but you will soon.
