Excessive brake pad wear
I have a 2001 GS 430 "L Tuned" . I purchased it with 48,000 miles with new brakes and rotors at that time. Less than 7000 miles later front brakes are at 3% and need replacing. My driving habits haven't changed in many years, and have never gone through brakes on any car or truck this fast. The dealer's contention is my driving habits are causing this to happen ... my response is I'd have to be "autocrossing " every weekend. I've never run it on any course . I do "drive" this car as its fast and handles well ...however this doesn't mean I'm on the brakes.
I think the dealer made a mistake and forgot to install the pads at 48k....First brake job on this car ocurred at 48k miles. Any comments or suggestions.
Thanks
Todd Setzer
oh ya I love the car.....

All pads were worn evenly... ? I think the Lexus dealer made a mistake, but they are insisting that this doesn't happen ...they don't make mistakes like this? I guess they haven't heard of human error? We'll see ... gonna check the wear after another 7k mi. My tire shop and others I've spoken with all seem to agree that pads don't wear out in 7k miles.

Yes I have the work order, but they insist they could never make such a mistake. Time will tell...car went 48k miles before 1st brake job and even then the pads still had some wear left.

Check to see if you have stock rotors and stock pads. If you do NOT, that may be the cause of your problem. I had stock rotors absolutely eat my EBC Greenstuff pads very quickly, and there was nothing obviously wrong with them to the naked eye. I changed the rotors and got new pads, then everything was fine. You may also have gotten a bad set of replacement stock rotors. As has been said already, I would really doubt that the Lexus dealer forgot to change the pads, highly unlikely.

Thanks ...that's something I can work on...something somewhere in the equation is not right, because pads went 48k mi then 7k....??? Highly unlikely Lexus forgot to install new pads...yes, but we do make mistakes....look what happened to the space shuttle...
Again thanks for the input.

I have aftermarket rotors and aftermarket pads, and my last checkup they told me the fronts are fine but the rear pads are at 10% and the rotors need to be replaced. I dont see any pitting or grooving on the rear rotors so does it make sense that the rotors need to be replaced. Also they said that crossdrilled rotors cant be turned, is this also true with slotted rotors?
