Question

I just purchased a GS400 with 32,000 miles. It has 17" wheels with relatively new Firestone SZ250 tires. The handling feels soft/slow and I was wondering what is a good upgrade to make to the suspension, etc. to improve the handling. Thanks.

Thumbs up call steve, now

how is your budget?

very low-steering ecu, makes the steering firmer

low, reasonable-l-tuned springs and shocks

reasonable, medium-eibach springs+bilsteins shocks+trd upper strut bars

budget is no concern- all of the above(either l-tunes or teh eibach+bilsteins)+sway bars+chasis brasis

Well GS4Will said it the best.

How is your budget?

Over the L-tuned product, i would recomened the TEIN CS coil-over system and a rear uper cusco bar. Both of these product can be purchased through a GReddy performance dealer. I trust the guys at GReddy because they have been completely straight with me so far. Not to mention that the product line is great. Anyway call GReddy and ask for pricing. I have the 800 number. It's 1-800-473-3392. Ask for Matt or Charles. Very COOL guys.

I would start w/the sway bar upgrade. This will allow you to improve the ride during cornering (esp. hard cornering) by allowing the car to remain flatter and allow higher entry and exit speeds into and out of corners. The sway bars will also reduce body roll/transitions during high speed directional changes (i.e. high speed lane changes, slaloms).

The other benefit is that the ride quality/comfort is not compromised because the OEM springs and shocks are maintained/kept. This may be all the handling improvement you need.

However, if you desire even more handling improvement, then aftermarket springs and shocks and even coilovers are the route to go. These modifications will be largely determined by your budget. Springs and shocks will tend to be less cost while coilovers are usually more expensive.

01 IS 300 IJM w/LSD, 5Zigen wheels, Toyo Proxes, 5Zigen exhaust, TRD race sway bars, TRD adj. shocks, Blitz filter, springs soon.
