How to flush brake system and swap DOT 3 to DOT 4?
I changed my oil and tranny oil today. I plan to do the differential, fuel filter, and flush the brake fluid this weekend. I have a few questions for the brake flush:
1) I know i can't mix fluids and I am currently running DOT 3. I am supposed to take out all of the fluid from the reservoir and then fill it up with whatever I"m changing it with, in this case the DOT 4 fluid. I am then supposed to bleed the passenger's side rear until clear fluid comes out with no bubbles. But if I pour DOT4 into the reservoir, wont it mix with the DOT3 in the existing system?
2) I do each corner at a time, and making sure that when I do each corner the fluid in the reservoir does not empty otherwise I may have to bleed the master brake cylinder, right?
3) Any other helpful suggestions, tips, etc?
Thanks.

Are you sure DOT3 and DOT4 are incompatable? I don't think so.
Why not just suck off most of the old fluid in the reservoir and refill with DOT4. Then bleed each wheel until you get clear fluid and keep refilling the reservoir with DOT4 as necessary. When you're done you have almost pure DOT4 I bet.

You can buy a one man bleeder kit at the auto parts store for about 7 dollars. I just flushed my system out last week with it and put in synthetic brake fluid. It comes with everything you need.

when bleeding the rear brakes, i was able to get clear fluid to run with the brake pedal depressed. however, when bleeding the front brakes, only a little fluid came out and then nothing. shouldnt fluid keep running as long as the brake pedal is depressed?
i bled all the brakes and the pedal is definitely firmer but im a little worried that only a little bit of fluid came out of the front brakes.

I purchased these and they work great for the DIYer. I have had no problems with these and the bleeding process is much quicker. You don't need another person to help you do your brakes. Check out the site.
hope this helps out
