Default Impressions-teins Vs L-tuned

I wanted to share some information that would hopefully assist others in their decisions concerning their suspension.

Background
GS400
Stock
Went to L-Tuned
I enjoyed them and of course they had a stiffer and lower ride vs stock. Still, I considered them to be a bit soft and felt the GS should come this way from the factory.
After 45k miles, the fronts dropped about another 1" so I picked up some new L-Tuned Shocks. Well, the drop was still there indicating the springs were wore which was too low for me.
After deciding to sup' the car up (TC,LDS,Gears, and soon a Blower), I decided to go the coilover route. I went with a new set of Tein Flex's with the controller. WOW. I hit the freeway once I gave it a test drive and was amazed at the handling. Still a nice ride yet much less bodyroll. WOW again.
After 5 weeks I decided to sell them and went back to a new set of L-Tuned springs/shocks. Why? To try something a little stiffer so I am looking for some HA's or even some Bilstein PSS's.
Boy was that a mistake!
I should have kept the Teins until I picked up the new set of coilovers because this L-Tuned crap is just that. Ride is the same as the Flex's on soft yet the bodyroll is immense compared to the Flex's. The confidence that the Teins instilled is no longer present. Now granted, one would expect a suspension that cost $700.00 more to be better....but the difference is astounding.
So my "take my time" approach to finding a set of PSS's or HA's has been hastened a bit from the now uncomfortable feel of the L-Tuned setup.
Since I knew I was going to sell the Flex's I did not want to wait till they were wore any further. I should have waited.
I just wanted to share with others that are thinking of picking up a set of Flex's. GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone selling PSS or HA’s? LOL.
Lee

Man, you are making me miss my Flex and they are not even off the car yet. If I was single and was only concerned for myself, the Flex would be going nowhere.

Anyway, I hope you get your car back to how you want it soon. BTW, shouldn't you be able to get the HAs for a pretty good price these days?

i'm sorry i don't know how to link you to the coilover rate thread.

if you'd be willing to pm me and tell me how i'd love to know. or anyone else it would be most helpful. i feel really retarded not knowing how to do this function

anyway it was started by manaray back on 3-26-02 and if you search thru his postings you'll find it there.

i saved it on my favorites

some of the coilover rates:

tein cs 9/8
tein flex 10/9
bilstein pss 12.25/8.17
tein ha 14/10
jic flt-a2 14/10 these are the ones i got after reading davegs4 saying the bilsteins weren't stiff enough. well these are plenty stiff. and handle absolutely incredible. manaray recommended.
tein ra18/10

hope this helps. ivan

this was posted by bitkahuna on 6/01/03 Thanks Overclocker. Flex looks interesting, but it seems to be softer than the Bilstein PSS that I recently experienced (although rear is stiffer). I find the front/rear differences between models interesting. I have a feeling I'd like the HA best, but not sure!

Some info from the start of this thread...

Tein CS: 9/8
HKS HiperMax II: 10/6
Tein Flex: 10/9
Blitz Sachs Damper SP7: 10.21/8.17
C-One: 12/9
Bilstein PSS:12.25/8.17
Aragosta: 12.3/10.8
NPG Sports: 13/8
Nishiki/Bilstein: 14/7
Section Spec RM/A-8: 14/8
Abflug ECS-III Scoot Tune: 14/10
Tein HA: 14/10

Default coilover rates

here is the start of that thread from manaray

I have listed them from softest (near stock) to stiffest (hope you have a well padded ***!)...however, some setups use pretty stiff front springs with soft rear springs so it's not an exact softest to stiffest list...

Generally, the dampening rates are matched to the springs (so soft dampening with soft springs)

There are a few missing (like H&R...I'm calling them tommorow) so I'll update this list as I get them...if anyone has additions or corrections, please post in this thread...

one bad thing about the Tein HA's is that it rusts.... BAD. So if you live in a area where it rains a lot or snows alot, forget about it or buy stock in WD40
