Question question about dropping...

hello all, i have been part of this forum since i purchased my 2000 GS300 back in 02/03. i know i could do a search, but i dont want to look at any "outdated" posts. i have 18" rims on my car and with the rims comes that UGLY gap. i want to drop my car, but i dont know what route to go. im a 21 yr. old college student and i pay for my school, car, insurance, all my bills and soon rent. im not broke, but i dont get any money from my parents for pride reasons ... i want to drop my car, but i dont know how much to drop it and how much it is going to cost (i wonna know how much to have saved up before i do it). now i have stock chrome rims for the winter that im going to put on REAL soon, sooo i will drop the ride come spring time... can anyone who has recently dropped their GS tell me ALL the parts needed and how much they paid to get it installed. also, if anyone on CL sells these parts, i would appreciate some PM's, thanks guys and i must say, I LOVE THIS FORUM!!!!!

Lowest cost option is springs only, but your shocks are likely to wear out sooner that way which means more cost down the road.

Springs/shocks are the next least expensive. Eibach and L-Tuned (which are also Eibach) springs drop about an inch and you can go with Bilstein or L-Tuned (KYB) shocks. Cost is about $500 + install. There's Daizen sport springs which drop more (nearly 2" front and less in the back I believe) - check http://www.tmengineering.net ). There's also Espelir (not sure of spelling) which drops 1.7" front I think and not sure on rear.

If you want flexibility and are willing to spend more, you can go with coilovers (combo spring/shock units). There's ones for sale in classifieds on here which can save you money. Install of coilovers is simpler than separate springs/shocks I believe.

But you're gonna need to read more on here... even the old posts are valuable.
