I'm flying into town on Wednesday, 2/15 to visit Rice University for grad school. Any alumni or students here?

Basically, I have never been to Houston and I'll be free Wednesday and Thursday after 2pm. I'll be coming alone so don't lead me to a romantic place!

How should I spend my day? Places to eat? I won't have a car so I think I'm limited to the downtown area.

How's the nightlife on Wed or Thursday nights? I was looking up some Yelp reviews, but doesn't look like Yelp has that big of a presence there. I'm Asian and seems like quite a lot of places discriminate.

You can hit up the bars at Rice Village on Thursday night. (Bakers St., Little Woodrows, Bronx). There are asians there. I go there sometimes whenever I'm back in town with friends. And hit up the Oh My Gogi Food truck thats parked outside those bars. Best drunk food ever.

I looked up Roxy and saw that it was 18+, not sure if that's what its like there in Houston. Any and all suggestions are welcome..

Any suggestions for lunch/dinner places before the drinking starts?

Roxy is mostly teeny bopper asians. Tue night aka "ladies night" is better cause its 21+. Still has some youngins that are able to sneak in, but I still wouldn't recommend it. Van Loc has some good viet food for lunch. There are alot of places to eat in the DT area. Just depends on what you want to eat.

I'm actually looking more for non-Asian food since I get that all the time in San Francisco. So I guess some BBQ or just a nice steak would be perfect for the trip. Nowhere fancy since I'm going alone.

Hmm, the thing is, I'm only going to be there from Wednesday and leaving noon of Friday. So definitely don't want to go to a place thats dead.

Can't really think of any hole in the wall type places. Only thing that comes to mind for steaks downtown is McCormicks I think.
