Looking for a nice weekend road trip for Texas gearheads? The Lone Star Flight Museum is putting on its 16th Annual Spirit of Flight Air Show this weekend, April 29-30 at the Lone Star Flight Museum on Scholes Field in Galveston. Weather looks like it’s going to be nice, and what better way to spend a spring Saturday or Sunday than in the near presence of 1200 hp open exhaust engines?



Widely considered one of the most intimate Air Shows in the nation, this is your chance to get up close with a collection of warbirds from the “golden age” of aviation, including WWII, Korea, and other eras. Best yet, most of these exhibits FLY. See, hear, and smell the conversion of high-octane aviation gasoline into thunder and excitement. This is my favorite show of the year - big enough to attract a LOT of performers, small enough to let you get up close, it is superbly run by the pros at LSFM. This year, attractions include F-15, A-10, and Apache demonstration teams, plus a full card of aerobatic performers as well as the aircraft your grandfather – or maybe your great-grandfather flew in the skies of Europe or the South Pacific. Bring the kids – as years go by, age, maintenance cost, and insurance coverage is making these flying exhibits obsolescent. It won’t be too many more years that we can watch these aircraft in their natural habitat – the sky. If you haven’t seen vintage fighters and bombers thunder by in a high-speed pass, or watched rotorcraft beat the air into submission, this is YOUR weekend!
