Default knock monitoring

I have been reading alot through the turbobuick.com website, and all of those guys have scanmasters that they can plug into their computer and it will tell them how much knock they are getting, pluse a bunch of other features. anyways, I started to realize that I didn`t know how us supra/sc300 guys measured knock other than listening for it. Is there any tool that will tell you how much you are being retarded b/c of knock or your actual knock? I was looking at this webpage http://www.jandssafeguard.com/ it seems promising, but we already have knock sensors, so shouldnt we be able to read from those like lots of other cars can? am I missing something or what?

I also found this, looks like a scanmaster for our cars. http://www.technosquareinc.com/mdm.htm not sure if the diagnostic port on the sc is the same as supra?

There is a Buick aftermarket gauge that is supposed to read knock on a display. It doesn't affect timing, but could let you know when too much boost or not enough timing is being cut. I don't remember the link. Did a google search on knock monitor or something like that. The Buick device was designed to run with their knock sensors, but perhaps our two sensors would suffice and you could just tap into the two leads on the drivers side of the block.

I actually found which one I am going to get. http://www.subarustore.com/msdenknocal.html good price, and made by a reputable company. That hks unit looks clean as hell, but would be redundant to have since I already have a wideband, and that unit also measures afr.

I have logger software on my PDA for my DSM made by Pocketlogger. Unfortunately they don't support Supras/SCs..
Not many people have had good luck with getting a reliable knock reading with the S-AFC II.
Lots of OBD2 loggers out there, not much for OBD1 though from what I've seen..

Boredguy... Summit has that MSD knock alert box also. Its their part# MSD-8964. The only advantage is that Summit will take anything back - virtually no questions asked. Perhaps good insurance on a part that none of us has used before.

I'm basing it on people that have compared the afc's readings to their logger knock readings - mostly DSMs..
