Default Just got new 2002 NAV DVD (ver.02.1) $125. Works GREAT! Most bugs fixed! + Canada!

I received a call from the parts dept today that the 2002 update
Navigation DVD (version 02.1) has arrived! I immeidately went
down there and picked it up for $125. (great new low price)
My Lexus dealer has been great at keeping me updated with
during the whole process.(calling every other week and telling
me "it's not here yet, but we'll call when it does")

Lexus Customer Service Center offered me a 50-percent-off
deal on the update navigation DVD a couple of months ago.
(this was 50% off the original $499 MSRP at the time)

The parts guy at my Lexus dealer told me to wait
because he knew the new DVDs are arriving this week.
Sure enough, 2 months later, a newer DVD and a lowered price
of $250. I still got the 50% off, so the final price was $125.
It was worth the wait!

I've never done this before, yet the whole process took me
less than 5 minutes. (from opening up the plastic wrapper on
the DVD to getting back in the driver's seat and entering the
first street address)
(this applies only to my '01 RX300)

I ejected the old Ver 2000.1 DVD out and inserted the new one.
When I started my '01 RX300, a very colorful screen came on
saying "Updating, please do not turn off power" for about 40
seconds. I wished I had my camera then, because the screen
was really pretty.

Next, the "I Agree" screen came up and I pressed it. When
I pressed "Destination" button, the buttons were still blanked
out. A few seconds later, the buttons came back on and I
changed the area. Canada is available now!

I drove around the highways that the previous 2000.1 version
always messed up. WOW, NavTech/Lexus/Denso really fixed
up everything! (good news for Washington, DC area owners,
you will now be able to go from I-495 to I-66 towards DC... The
system will no longer confuse the Express/Local on I-270 in MD)

Anyway, it was the best $125(plus tax) I've spent in a long time.
The pictures below will do the talking for me...

Why [b]pay[/]b for the updated DVD?

I also got the new update DVD last week. Cost to me: $0

My Lexus service advisor simply took out my old DVD and put in
a new updated DVD, and wrote "defective DVD, warranty replacement" on the repair order... The original DVD was obviously "defective" since it contained so many mistakes... therefore it is a "warranty repair" as far as my dealer is concerned.

wow, thanks for your advice! You just saved me $125!!!

I went down to the dealership to get some floormats yesterday.
When I asked the service advisor about what you wrote, he said
it wouldn't be a problem to change the invoice to "warranty
repair" !!! They refunded the $125 back to my credit card
and now the update DVD is free! I originally bought the DVD
from the parts guy and he basically just treated it like a
parts sale...

thanks again!!!

Default Replacing DVD

Can you change the DVD yourself? I thought we were told by the dealer that only they could make the switch???

Surprised, but happy, to hear that people have been able to get for free. Went on trip to Canada in Aug and dealer said it would be 500 but no mention that it would come down soon.

Have to give salesman a call and see if he can "work" it as a defective DVD. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!

ABSOLUTELY! If you know how to change a music CD in your
CD player, then you will have no trouble changing the update DVD.

All you need to make sure is the engine is running. Insert the
DVD and the system will update itself in a minute or so. When
it is done, the map or menu will show up. That's it!

Hi sleepy,
I just came back from the dealer telling them the flaws of the navigation. No luck. They said they can't produce the problem, but they said next time it happens again, they'll swap the ECU. I think they don't know that I know it's the DVD 2002.1 so hopefully, I'll put some miles on my car and go back and say my DVD is defective and the roads still don't exist.

Let's cross our fingers for the "free" dvd upgrade.

Angry No Free DVDs

Great to see that the new DVD is out (only 15 months AFTER I as promised it). Also great to see that some of you have dealers who either make good on their promises or are willing to help you out with something that should have been handled much better by Lexus.

I have just received the following letter from Lexus Corporate:

"All Lexus customers are responsible to pay for the Navigation Update for 2000 and newer model year Navigation vehicles, if they choose to get the update."

I have been told to go to my dealer and pay them $250 for what was promised to be free with my vehicle purchase in July, 2001. No amount of my displeasure at this situation matters to Lexus and my pleas for a reaosnably priced update have not worked, either (unless you think dropping the price from $500 to $250 is reasonable). As many of you have pointed out, a navigation system with missing data or wrong data is unsafe and useless. Lexus doesn't understand this and wants us, customers who spent over $2000 for this system, to pay more money for a working system.

Anyway, that 's what I've heard. I would encourage any dealer who wants to sell me a DVD for a reasonable cost (I've told Lexus that $75 is reasonable... $250 is not!) to get in touch with me. My dealer doesn't care about any promises made to me by a former employee of theirs.

TL,

How about a list of the defects so I have some "ammo" with my dealer?

I called them and they want $500 for the disc *plus* installation!

thx

The newest update navigation DVD has a list price of $250.
Lexus lowered this in October.

As for a list of "defects".... I only have specifics for Maryland/
Virginia area... since that's where I do most of my driving...
(for example: I-270 Local/Express separation, I-66 HOV problem,
I-95 to I-495...) These are actual mistakes on the old DVD that
I experienced while driving...

Default To ToyotaLexus

Which Lexus dealership do you use in the DC area? I'm also from this area, although I have not yet purchased a Lexus (am in the market for a RX330, possibly), I'd like to keep this one in mind for my future business.

My dealer can't even discuss the NAV upgrades intelligently at any price.

Does anybody out there know if I can purchase (I would pay $125) it from another dealer?

I just called my local dealer's part dept. $250 for the new version plus one hour of labor to install it....yeah right.

If anyone in the Chicago area comes across a dealer that's selling it for $125, please let me know. Thanks.
