1999 ES300 Fuel problem?

1999 ES300 Fuel problem?
We have a 99 ES300. GREAT car. But the other day it died while driving. It would start again but didn't accelerate. Then it got to the point that it sounded like it was being flooded. People said to change the fuel pump and filter so we did. It still doesn't really want to start and won't move with a strong smell of fuel. What else can we try?
