Dry start sound
So gs-gang! I a man having a issue, I can't seem to figure out what is making is this noise but here is a description, on a cold start, the engine makes a high chatter, piston slap-ish type noise, but this noise only last for 2 seconds and then the engine is quiet, I could turn the car off and it won't do it again.. does anyone else out there experience this, what am I hearing what should I look for? How to fix it. The car has 215k and I have sufficient oil visible on the dip stick 20-50 weight VR1 race oil .

I dont know who told you to use 20 50 weight oil but I suspect thats the culprit. yes, you could have a timing belt tensioner clacking due to loss of hydraulic fluid but try changing to the correct weight oil. But, are you using thicker oil to try and mask another problem? Like vvt codes???

Yup, change the oil to the recommended weight (5w-30) and recheck for noise. What you are describing sounds like what happens when all the oil drains out of the vvti hub, and when you start it cold the oil pressure builds and the noise stops as oil is delivered back to the hub.
