Hello All, purchased a 2007 IS250 about a week ago with 71k on the ODO. Nice clean car from the original owner, handles a heck of a lot better than the 2002 LS430 I'm currently selling, haha! I know this is all over the threads, but still concerned about the carbon build up in these engines. I called the dealership where it was serviced and they emailed me over the records. At 52,180 miles the car had a $6,148 dollar service that addressed the carbon build up misfire with a replacement of pistons and piston ring set, gasket and cleaned up everything etc.... At 56,288 the owner complained of oil consumption and from the paperwork, it looks like they basically replaced the block and cleaned everything again for the tune of $9,647.....YOWZA! Did they do anything better the second time around or will this thing be all gummed up again in 50k more miles. Anyways, LOVE the car and will definitely enjoy it for hopefully years to come. Any comments are welcome, thanks guys and gals!

There were several problems from what I have read. Oil Rings were bad, Block Sleeves were defective, DI didn't clean valves, PCV System was not right to begin with, etc.

Anyway, seems like you have a car you can drive for a while. Yes, it will eventually carbon up again. I don't think they can fix that issue entirely without some kind of protection for the PCV inlet in the crankcase. Put a Catch Can on it ASAP. You may be able to get more out of this vehicle than typical.

Run good 93. Use a good full synthetic oil, install a catch can would be all good things to help prolong carbon build up. The biggest issue was due to oil seeping through the rings. When oil burns, it causes a greater amount of carbon build up. Technically the fix was supposed to use tighter fitting rings that help seal the pistons against the bore not allowing the oil to burn. That's why people were having oil consumption issues. So I would say the best suggestion is to check your oil on every fill up just to see if you have any burning. That should give you a general idea of what to expect. Normal carbon build up shouldn't be too bad as long as you try to be preventive (mentioned at the beginning).

I had a 2015 WRX for 2 years, 56k miles, DD and it was DI only. I had the valves walnut blasted because I was already installing port meth injection. TBH they weren't that bad and that's most because I never babied my car. Allowing carbon to hardened is an issue. Keeping it hot *though debatable* is supposed to help break it up. I removed the EGR system on that car because that is the worst enemy when it comes to build up but is also an emissions issue.
