Default CRC MAF Cleaner

I bought a can of CRC MAF sensor cleaner and noticed this statement on the can: DO NOT use on use on vehicles with a Karmen-vortex air flow sensor,e.g. Toyota Supra Turbos, Mitsubishi's and most Lexus vehicles". Does anyone know anything about this and where I can get a cleaner that is safe?

Thanks,
hms09

Some LSes come with a hotwire type sensor - proceed as usual. Karmen-vortex units do not require cleaning IIRC. If a problem is suspected, I believe you can measure its resistance to diagnose and replace as necessary.

If you have a 1990, a 1991, a 1993 a 1994. YOU DO NOT clean the MAF, other wise known as the Air Meter, there is really nothing on it to clean it has little holes in it that allow air in side it and a mirror etc. all a cleaner will do is mess up the mirror.

I have a 98 LS400, and a 2007 LS460. The 98 is the one in question.

Thanks,

I have a 1998 LS400 and I removed the intake ductwork today to fix the seal around the throttle body which was all crooked because whoever last installed it messed it all up.

I bought CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner thinking I was going to be able to clean my MAF, and when I found that my MAF looked like this I decided not to clean it.

I tried cleaning the throttle body with CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner and it had absolutely no effect. It didn't clean anything at all. I'll have to get some throttle body cleaner and try again another time.

Did yours look like the one in the picture that I posted earlier? My understanding is that this type will be ruined by MAF cleaners or any attempt to clean. I'm not sure why. I'm thinking I should try to find a bad one and open it up and see what's inside.

This is a hot-wire MAF.

'98+ (VVTi) LS400s have hotwire MAFs, as do 95-97.

89-94 are AFM cars and cannot be cleaned with most any liquids/sprays, compressed air only.
