Default 2010-12 GX460's buying advice

I have owned my 04 GX470 for 7 years now and just now looking to replace it with the 460. I am looking to spend appx. $25-30k. Is there any particular models or years that I should avoid? I do like the premium model but do not like the air bag system. I had my GX470 air bag system converted to coils. Any info would be appreciated. I still have my 04 GX with 151k and it runs amazing. Just looking to stay ahead of any major problems and have seen similar GX's selling for $10k.

Your price range will put you in a 2010- 2011 base, possibly a 2012 with higher mileage. No air suspension on this so good to go with your concern.
I have the base 2011 and it doesn't come with the side door molding, it is standard on the 2012. This was a must for me and I payed around $700 for it. The wheels are boring, but I knew that I was going to replace what ever was on the truck anyway.

Don't worry about the year as there are no concerns (maybe the air bag recall posted here). Get the best deal that you can and be aware of the secondary air intake problem posted here as well

I would probably not buy a 2010 or 2011 until the airbag recall is complete. If you buy one, you won't be able to carry a passenger in the front seat for months. Keep putting miles on your 2004 in the meantime, and buy a 2010-2011 in maybe 4 or 5 months or whenever this gets fixed.

That said, you should be happy with a 2010, 2011, 2012. I have not heard of air suspension problems yet on the premiums but typically air suspensions are not 100% regardless of make.

Thank you for your replys. I may take your advice and wait. Also off topic but why did Lexus discontinue offering dark blue for the GX460?

If you're in Massachusetts, and the car is from any of the northern states, then you technically aren't part of the recall yet. Massachusetts, along with the rest of the northeast, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, etc. are all Phase 4 recalls because the environment slows the deterioration rate of the inflator, meaning the airbag is still considered safe for now. Phase 4 recalls won't begin until 2019. Cars in the middle band of states won't be recalled until 2018. The recall is only active, right now, for 2010-2011 vehicles in the south or California.

You may also want to make sure there are no issues with the secondary air injector pump and valves. It is a poor design will fail. It's not a matter of if, it is a matter of when. Do a search here and you will see that many have this issue as the foam filter deteriorates over time and gets sucked into the pump/valve and it is a very expensive fix. Mine went out at exactly 60k miles but luckily for me it was covered under warranty but some other years/vin #s aren't covered.
