Question 2006 LEXUS GS300 RWD Transmission replacement

Hey guys, Im new here and in the market for a new transmission for my 06 gs300. Unfortunately, the trans wont shift past 3rd gear anymore. My trusted mechanic told me that getting a new one is the best solution. I have been looking around and the used trans I found were $1800>. That's insane!!! AWD trans go for 50% less easily. However I did some digging and found transmissions that share very similar Serial numbers.

The dysfunctional one I have currently in my lex (Serial #: 35010 30A60) is confirmed by the dealer that it is the US market 6 speed A/T transmission,
All of these that I found on Ebay for $1800 that has a Serial #: 35010 30A70.
Another one, a JDM trans for a lot cheaper with a Serial#: 35010 30A80 that came attached to a toyota crown 3GR-FSE engine, which happens to be the same engine in my GS!
These transmissions are all RWD so can anyone confirm if the 30A80 trans can fit my 2006 lexus gs300 without complications? What is the difference between these 3 different serial numbers?

Thanks,
Andrew S.

Why not just pull out the trans, get it rebuilt by a trusted local shop? Then reinstall it with a new torque converter.

I was told that it isnt a typical rebuild. I need new gear shift solenoids. 3 of them that supposedly would run me $1500 for the whole repair including labor.
I would be looking at a $1000 budget with that JDM trans.

...your mechanic told you that you need a new trans because of bad shift solenoids?

FIND A NEW MECHANIC!

Shift solenoids are cheap and easy to replace... drain the fluid... pull the pan... replace the solenoids... reinstall pan... re-fill with fluid. You don't even have to pull the transmission for the repair. Whom ever told you that you need to replace your transmission due to failed shift solenoids.. then quoted you $1500 for the repair... they are smoking some good stuff.

A couple hundred bucks in parts... an afternoon in the driveway.

If it is indeed a shift solenoid, it should have thrown a code for it. Verify that is the problem and fix it.

It's been a fun project. Compound turbo system (hx30/hx35 @ 40psi)... water meth injection... built 4l80e trans.... 2500hd core support, radiator, intercooler... etc..etc..etc... Been tinkering with it for a good while. Needs head studs and more fuel as the turbo system is capable of 70+psi which would put me in the 375hp/700ft.lb range.

Anyways...

Sweet rig! Why didnt you run a 6bt in that tahoe?

40psi is insane boost, especially on silicone couplings. how's the cold start with all those mods to it?

Starts great. I plug it in when it's under 20F.. but itll fire off below zero without the block heater. It just doesn't like it. 6bt would fit... but it would require moving the firewall back... plus the 4bt weights 1200#... the 6bt is even more. Its already got 3500hd plow package torsion bars for the weight (as it weights more then the duramax by a good bit). I also mainly did the swap for mileage... on the highway, I can get low to mid 20s depending on how I drive it. Not bad for a scaled 7200# SUV on 35s.

The boots aren't standard silicone... they are aramid reinforced with a working pressure of 50psi (200psi burst strength at 500F working temp) for the big ones.. 100psi working pressure for the smaller ones. I blew through 6 standard boots in no time.. that's when I ordered these from www.verociousmotorsports.com At the time, they were the only company selling Aramid reinforced boots (which is needed for the heat. Temp coming out of the high pressure charger is over 350F and it was melting the nylon boots.

I have the same issue my c&d solenoid are stuck that is the code I am getting. Took it to Lexus (Columbia, SC- where i purchased the certified preown lexus) they said I need a new transmission, quoted me $4800.00. I just can't believe stuck solenoid would lead to a new transmission so I took it to a local mechanic and he said the solenoid can be replace. I haven't decided who to trust at this point. But I'm leaning towards changing the solenoid and fluids. Hoping it will fix the problem

Solenoids can be replaced. However getting to them might not be as easy depending on their position, and that's where the labor costs can add up.
