2013 LS460L in for a ton of miles.... Costs, maintenance, additions and problems.....
Hello Everyone!
Some of you know me on here and some of you don't I have been somewhat active in the GS forms in the six year run and 300,000 trouble free miles I put on my 2007 GS350. It was a fantastic car and it never let me down... Never put me on the side of the road and always got me home safe to my family.
I never thought of really getting rid of it but a friend peaked interest in the car and with 340,000 miles on the odometer, I decided to take the deal and pass the torch. She is still running to this day and the new owner is in love with it.
The day I passed the keys over:
I always said, I wanted an LS but it needed to be white with beige and it needed the ML system and the LED headlights. The rest of the options would be a bonus.
Timing is everything in life and I just so happened to find a one owner 2013 LS460L checking all my boxes and the bonus was, it was located a short trip in the same state. I headed up to see the car and I was in love! This car was still owned by the owner but they had upgraded to a Range Rover Land Rover so they had the car in their amazing garage....
He was a collector of some amazing cars that went to auction...
I was sold! The car had just turned 31,000 miles and the owner had the 30k service performed at the dealer and replaced the tires.... Bonus!
The drive home was a surreal experience for me..... So quiet...... So smooth..... So right....
I finally got the car home and went right to the tint shop to get it dark but not super dark.... Just enough to keep people from seeing in and also keeping the car nice and cool in those hot summer days.

You've owned it now for at least a month, how many miles have you put on it and how are you liking it?
I'm looking forward to your write ups...I'm a huge fan of vehicle high mileage stories and no one does it as good as you.

Part 2:
The car has put on about 1000-1200 miles every week. The first week I drove the car I wanted to see just what kind of gas mileage this car would get. I am about 90 percent highway driving being that I am always driving all over the south. This is a RWD Long body car and I am pretty impressed with the numbers I've been getting:
I'm averaging 27 miles per gallon on a TANK! I'll take it!
If I really babied the car and drove strictly highway, I got 29 mpg.
That was the one thing I was worried about before I got this car. My GS was averaging 30 mpg.
Real world City/Hwy driving on a tank gets me 26 mpg on average. That works for a big heavy powerful car lie this!
I got 543 miles to a tank!
After about two weeks of driving the car, I had some concerns about the brake system during stop and go traffic.... It would really grab the left front tire more than any other and it was very grabby to the point of being a safety concern. To the dealer we went:
I'm no stranger to the dealer and so my advisor said its probably a fluid issue.. I said I had been reading up on these cars and the brake actuator is a concern of mine. He said, he had never had to replace one on a 2013-present.
They bled the system and no change so guess what..... My car was the first 2013 at that dealer to have the brake actuator replaced... I hope its the last! The car was just at 34,000 miles.
After two days, I finally got my car back and all is smooth again! I love the warranty even though it will be up in the next two to three months due to hitting the 50k mark!
I came up quick on my first oil change so I went online and purchased a case of filters and drain plug O-rings:
I always do what I can to do my part to maintain my cars.. Walmart is the best place to get 10 quarts of oil.
First oil change of many!
I checked the manual just to make sure of all jack points and the exact amount for the oil:
Onto the process:
After I drained the pan, I went to the filter area and I couldn't believe the dealer left the filter door open with the 10mm nut screwed into the plastic. The door was facing forward so it was only a matter of time before it got ripped off. Not happy about that but just one more reason to do these yourself....
So I decided to take my chances and not take the drain plug off the bottom of the filter case and just spin the filter off like I did on my GS...... Yeah, don't do that! Oil got on the exhaust and the smell wasn't fun for the days after. I ended up cleaning it with brake clean. Lesson learned.....Take the plug off the bottom.... Noted for the 40k service!
OK, all drained and back on the ground to put the new blood in. She takes a lot! The book says 9.2 but to get it full on the stick it was all of 9.5 quarts!
Time to reset the maintenance reminder:
Back out on the road and putting the miles on her daily! More updates very soon!

ive always had tan interior and I really like it, although on my 08L I have a darker charcoal leather package and it feels nice to have a change once in a while
The updated interior on the 13 is really great, id love to somehow swap a newer steering wheel onto my 08, not sure if its possible due to all the gizmos and electronics

Part 3:
When I got the car it had a bonus of a built in K-40 Calbre radar system. I was so happy since the original owner spent just over 2k having it installed. I figured, I would be the one person to benefit from his purchase. After a little over three weeks of driving with it, I soon realized this was the biggest waste of two grand one could make....
So many false alarms and when I did have a legitimate threat, I saw the cop at about the same time it made any sort of noise. I knew this had to go and so the research began. I found they perfect option and so I ordered it up.
Traveling 50-60k a year, I have had my share of speeding tickets.....
I wish I had taken a picture every time I was pulled over.... I'd fill this thread up!
I ordered my new setup and set aside a day to pull the old system out and install the laser diffuser and the front and rear radar heads. The rear laser diffusers have yet to be installed because I want to make some custom fitted brackets for the heads so they look oem as opposed to these ugly laser heads. I can't do that in an 87,000 dollar car.
On with the install.
After showing you those photos of the times I've been pulled over, don't judge me on what I ended up spending on this setup! ALP Priority is the best laser defense setup on the market. The tests don't lie! Do your homework and you will be a believer of this setup.
I decided to go overboard with two dront diffusers and two rear. Front and Rear Net radar heads complete with HI-FI setup and Bluetooth module to run it through my smartphone when needed. This is a crazy setup and has already saved my *** from radar many times. I haven't been hit with laser to date but I'm ready!
If you want to play, you gotta pay....
The setup all pretty in its original boxes..... Install fee NOT included!

Great story, fun read and great pics! Thank you. Love the cop photos! Do you go well over the limit (15+) ? I never exceed +10, except when passing when I have occasionally gone at 85-90. I will probably have to wait to drive in Wyoming or Montana to drive faster than that 
More power to you doing all this work yourself. If you had the set up installed at a shop, that could push your bill another $500! Two questions:
1) What is the purpose of the rear radar? If you have already passed a cop over the limit, isn't it too late?
2) Why dump the old set up in the trash
It might work for someone else. You could get at least a few hundred bucks on eBay, may be more.

Can you sum up in layman's terms what exactly this radar thing is you bought and what it does (especially that makes it worth over $2k)? I have no doubt it's worth the money but I honestly don't know what it does and how it does it, lol. I always figure one of those Valentine radar detectors is all you need.

Beautiful LS. Awesome radar system and a lot of work involved in stalling it. Must be well worth it.
