Default Current LS and Dream LS

Went to my local grocery store last night and my car's older brother was parked 2 spaces away. Same color combo (silver/grey), same tint level, same rims (5 stars, although mine are smaller). I stood there for a minute just looking at the difference in the lines of the cars with them side-by-side. I really do like the lines of the '10's-'12's, especially the shape of the windows and the rear tail lights and exhaust design. I actually think I prefer them to the '13's and beyond (although I like the '13 + interior much more). I almost pulled the trigger in July on a 2012 LS just like this one. Ended up deciding to keep my LS for about another year to take advantage of one more year of depreciation on a '12 and also see if the '13 will come down a bit when the LS500 gets released.Current LS and Dream LS-ls2.jpg

I think Lexus as a co. is stellar....but the one thing I wish they would do is up the performance.....with the LS460 I know there is a F sport....what does it get you? I do know the brakes are pretty large, almost 15" up front, which is nice. That's something our cars lack (decent sized discs), even though they have 4 piston fixed calipers....another question is why did the trunk shrink so much...

oh no, is Lexus playing the numbers game where the number does not represent the displacement, or is the V8 going up to 5 liters?

My opinion is the new generation LS is going to have the same 5.0L V8 as the LC500. I think there's a good chance we'll find out more in January at the big auto show. I'm looking forward to a major facelift which will drive down the price of the 2 prior generations and make '10-'12 and '13's more affordable for a frugal dude like myself. I'll quickly ditch my S5 and put that cash towards a new-to-me LS. There's currently a $10k premium for a similar mileage '13 when compared to a '12, I'd like to see that delta shrink a bit if I am to consider a '13. And if the new LS looks anything like the LC, it's gonna be sweet (and lots of design cues from renderings show it will look similar).

Bye--bye V8 ... How does a 3.5 L V6 with 415 rated hp sound? https://www.clublexus.com/articles/l...mored-drop-v8/

To me? Not good. V6's lack primary and secondary balance. Time to hoard more LS430's, maybe a 3rd and 4th. Kinda like when corned beef goes on sale for $1.39/lb. in March.

That press release says expect 25 MPG.
Big whoop............I do that now in hilly western NC, and 26+ in the coastal plain. On mid grade fuel.
Don't need no stinking V6!
So maybe 430 and 460 values don't drop as folks like me hope.

I'd rather them keep a big v8 in the car to keep the heritage of the LS line. People spending 65k to 80k on a new LS aren't going to be obsessing over gas mileage numbers I'd imagine.

I'd hold onto your 430 as long as you can. You won't find a better car for the money. I love the 460 but after test driving a brand new one it wasn't a big enough wow factor to justify the money from my current 2005.

the 430 was quieter and interior felt nicer. the 460 did have much more power which was an upgrade but the engine made a lot more noise at idle and driving.

As I said, I think it will follow the LC...which has a 3.5L V6 in the hybrid. But a naturally aspirated V8 is the more common configuration for that car. http://www.motortrend.com/news/2018-...-preparations/

I have faith in Lexus to know the audience well enough for the LS to know that there's a lot of us who would ditch the car entirely if it lost a V8.

Agree. I've driven two 460's and just didn't see that much improvement. Still think the 430 is quieter and more luxurious. Yeah, from some angles the 460 looks more interesting. From the side? The 460 wins. From the back? With the narrow trunk? Not even sure it's an LS. It's all personal opinion here.

Now you're talking! Not sure if anyone here is in the market for a $90k car (I'm not, can't afford it), but in the big picture, it may be a sweet car for the price. This is over 2 yrs. ago--I was at the BMW dealership and saw a 6 convertible in the showroom for 126k (had to have been an M but my memory does not serve me). Get the LC500 and save yourself 30k, and who cares if it can't keep up on a track (if that's the case).....if that car lasts 10+ years without trouble, it was 90k well spent, because it's not likely that would be the case with the BMW....

Yeah but it's a record mileage contender. Shouldn't you keep until at least 300? Get a designated driver to help.

I'd offer to donate the '01, a 16-year old northern climate survivor, and one of the original 3rd Gen LS's, to the LS430 Museum - currently an idea offered by wynjazz.

Thumbs up

A museum would be cool. Can probably find space over here in Northern CA. The word "space" is not a reference to our mental status.
