my quest continues! I went to the dealer today and test drove a 2013 LS 460. White with only 13,000 mile,s 13,460 I believe. The car was absolutely perfect, no complaints whatsoever from me.

Interestingly, the sales guy told me I could extend the warranty. This car is Lexus Certified and the "regular" warranty goes until August of 2019. To extend that would cost $3,600 and it could go for a maximum of 5 more years or until 2024. If I get this car I'm actually thinking of doing that. I need to go back to the dealer with sweetie of course, but I think she will like it.

The sales guy and I talked about the front suspension and control arms. He said EVERY older Lexus had some issues with front suspension. But not so many in the 2013 and 2014's on up. Interesting to know I guess.

Don't trust that sales guy. You basic warranty is 4 years or 50k miles(cover almost everything) from 2013. The warranty he mentioned is powertrain warranty 6 years 75k miles that rarely needs to be repaired. Don't waste money to buy Lexus powertrain warranty.

You can buy extended Lexus platinum warranty before your basic warranty expires if you want to keep your car for a long time

It has been a long time and I could be wrong. I was told your car has to be within 5 years or 75k miles to qualify to buy Lexus extended warranty when I bought the extended warranty for my 06 430 in 2011

At least I know 2011-12 460 don't have control arm issue. I sat inside 2013+ 460 but never drove it. I feel the newer 460 is more solid and quiet. Is 2013+ drive more solid, stable and quiet than old 460?

So, the original warranty is 4 years or 50,000 miles. That warranty will expire 4 years from the inservice date when it was originally sold. So on a circa 2013 car you would expect that warranty to expire sometime in 2017. The certified warranty is 2 years after that, so thats where they get to August of 2019 with no mileage limit. You can extend that warranty per year up to a total of 6 years with unlimited mileage, which would be ~ 2023.

Whether thats worth it or not depends on your value judgement. For $3,600 I'd be tempted...

The car has to be within the original 4 year 50k mile warranty in order to buy a platinum new car warranty, but thats different than this certified extension.

SW15LS is correct. To add to what he said, if it is a CPO vehicle sold by Lexus dealership, platinum warranty had to be purchase at the time of sale. It can't be purchased afterwards. At least that's what was told to me by Lexus customer service. Just to confirm, give them a call.

I never bought new Lexus and only bought extended Lexus platinum warranty in 2011 for my 06 430 at 72k miles. Correct me if I am wrong :

that 2013 460 basis warranty will end in 2018 or 50k, when any of the two condition met, then you will have another 2 years unlimited certified warranty.

If you want to buy Lexus extended warranty. One of requirements is less than 5 years and 75k miles. So if you want to have extended warranty after 2019, you want to make sure your mileage is less than 75k when you buy the warranty in 2018

2v1g, for Lexus extended warranty, vehicle needs to be within 4 years or 50k miles. For CPO vehicles, that needs to be purchased at the time of sales.

SW15LS: Yes, what you stated is how the sales guy explained it to me. He didn't use the term "platinum" when talking about the warranty. My wife raised the question, is the extended warranty good at any Lexus dealer across state lines? There's a possibility we could move before 2023. I'm going to send him an email later to ask some more questions.

And for the the price of the extended warranty, I think it's a really good deal. What is it, like 700 per year. It's Cheaper than my insurance really.

Oh and one more thing. The idea of Miley's. Some people are posting the CPQ warranty is only good for so many miles. The sales guy told me several times directly, it is unlimited miles.

He did mention the CPO warranty was changed about 6 months ago, but didn't go into details, and I didn't know to ask. But Is that possibly when Lexus went to unlimited miles on CPO cars?

So there are two warranties that's the issue. There's the "platinum" warranty which essentially is an extended warranty anybody can buy. I bought my LS new for instance, I can buy an extended warranty for mine but I have to buy the platinum warranty which is priced according to years and miles.

The certified warranty is different. It doesn't have any limit on miles, just years. That was a change a few months ago. It used to be 3 years from used purchase or 100,000 total vehicle miles.

There's no way for me or anybody who did not purchase the car certified to buy the CPO warranty.

That's the confusion...

Make sure he's talking about a Lexus warranty and not a third party warranty. Some third party ones are fine, but you need to make sure what you are buying.

I think the rule may changed a little bit since 2011. In 2011 When I bought my 06 72k 430 at the Lexus of wayzata with 5 years 80k miles platinum warranty for $4000, they told me I couldn't get the Lexus warranty if my mileage is over 75k

You also don't live in the US. The warranty plan and requirements varies depending on the country.
