So I have 17 inch older GS wheels on my 07 is350 and I run the stock 17" set up 225/45/17 Front and 245/45/17 in rear. I'm ordering new blizzaks so should I get all 4 225 or run the staggered setup I have now. The slimmer the tire the better in snow so I woukd like all 225 plus it'll be cheaper but will a 225 tire go on the rear since rear is 245?im not exactly sure the size of the rim..

Can't speak to how wide the rims are on your car, but on my car with 18" wheels, the rear rims are a half inch wider, But tires can go on rims of different widths, a half inch is a small difference. Find the detailed specs for the tire. It should have a line saying fits rims from x to y inches.

For the 225/45/17 rim range says 7-8.5 so I should be good, I highly doubt my rims are more than 8.5

The size is stamped on the inside of the wheel. I run 225 all around in the winter for better traction.

Looks like mine are 7.5 stock GS 350 rims from 2007 or 2008 so I should be good. Ordering 4 of the 225 blizzaks tonight.
