Default Brake Screech

Occasionally my brakes will screech on a cold start when its cold or wet for about the first 2 or 3 times I press the pedal. Its not a big deal at all, but my guess is I should replace pads. Is there anything else I should consider or is this a common occurrence or..?

Yes, you should measure the thickness of the pad, thickness of the rotor and condition of the rotor surface. When and if you do anything, you need to know how old your fluid is and if it is due for a flush and refill.

Mine used to screech loudly right before I came to a complete stop. I put in the anti-squeal pads, and problem solved.

Appreciate the help from both of you. I will do all of this next time I can work on the car.

Are you on OEM pads or aftermarket ones?

You probably park outside in the moist Oregon air. If you do, overnight you can get a slight layer of surface rust that builds up on your rotors. Upon the first couple uses of your brakes, you'll effectively be removing that rust with your pads causing that noise.

This is painfully accurate lol. I do my best not to park outside but because I park and ride occasionally I have to leave it outside. I didn't actually know this.

Probably is. I haven't taken my car to service since I got it, but I'll probably ask about it anyway.
