Getting new rear shocks installed
HI All,
More of an opinion based question here, but I am getting two rear shocks installed (KY brand, I think?) for $398 CAD ($302 USD). Do you think this price is fair? I'm being charged $90 for labour.
Thanks!

That sounds like a fair price to pay for a shop to do it. I presume it is an independent because they are using KYB shocks. It takes under an hour, so they would charge an hour labor. Considering the price of those shocks and the fact they are probably better than the OEM Tokicos, I would do it.

Glad you can tell the diff. It may not, however, be due to the KYB shocks, but simply due to having new shocks. How many miles on the car? If the shocks were worn out, any good shock will make the car drive noticeably better.
We have nearly 50k miles on our '13 RX350, and I don't notice any negative traits to ride or handling. I would think the shocks could go 80K if the vehicle is not abused. Any thoughts on that?

Only for labor as no Toyota vehicle uses the same rear shocks as the RX. They would have to order the rear shocks. You could just buy them online from a discount OEM source for about $80 delivered as that is what I did. It took me less than an hour to install them in my garage with floor jacks and hand tools. I am sure any local independent repair shop or gas station could do the job for about an hour labor charge. That would be much less than a Toyota dealer's hourly rate.
I got mine here http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/
Another source is https://www.mylparts.com/ and I think they give discounts to CL members.

Leaking rear shocks is a known issue on the RX. I bet yours had been leaking since you bought it. I just replaced mine as both had been leaking and the improvement-transformation was so amazing I wish I had done it a year ago.
