Default Lock/Unlock speaker beep suddenly very quiet - 2000 LS -

As the title says:
2000 LS400 w 199,000 km on her.
Runs clean and smooth as a whistle, sharp as a thistle.

This morning, for the first time, the beep the car makes when locking or unlocking with the key FOB (and the continuous tone when opening the door with the key still in the ignition) is suddenly almost inaudible.

Thoughts?

There's a small button far under the dash roughly in line with the steering wheel on the driver's side that mutes the lock/unlock beep.

There is a non volatile memory in the MPX network body computer and it is holding the beep sound level and others. As long as the memory and the system are working right, the beep sound level should not be changed. Below is the way to change the sound level using the remote key commander for a JDM Celsior 98-00. I don't know it's effective for a USDM but may be the same.

1, Press UNLOCK button for about 5 seconds until you can hear the beep twice and then release the button.
2, The 1st beep should lasts only 0.13 second and the 2nd beep 0.5 seconds. These tell you that the car is in the phase of sound level adjustment mode.
3, Press UNLOCK button once and you can hear the beep for 0.13 second.
4, Every time you press it, the sound level goes up and after reaching the MAX, it drops.

Does this work for your car?

first off the door chime is completely independent from the alarm answer back. What happens when you trigger the alarm panic?

it's possible that the siren has gone bad, or the wiring between the siren and the MPX has been compromised. Or an array of other things that I would want to check prior to blaming the MPX system off the bat. But as theMPX is relatively easy to diagnose with Yamae's procedures it's quick to be ruled in or out.

Sorry that I forgot to inform you one important condition while doing it. The driver's door should be opened.

Seems to be related to weather. I am in Canada. When it is COLD, the sound is muffled. When it is Warm, it is back to normal... Strange?

that definitely IS strange, but come to find out mine wasn't working because when I washed my car, I guess it somehow got filled up with water. Poured the water out and she's back to normal beeping hahahaha
