Default 2002 SC430 rear shocks

The struts/shocks on my 2002 SC430 are worn after over 100k miles. I found the front ones on partsgeek.com for like $85 a piece, but the rear one is $260 a piece.

I read here that the rear ones on 2000-2002 GS300/400 are a direct fit for the SC430. I saw the rear shocks having different part #'s. Can someone who has used those shocks on the SC430 confirm the fit? I don't want to order the wrong parts.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the interchangeability with GS parts.

The 2002 through 2005 SC430 rear struts should be the same. The same strut part number is used on either side. The upper mount part is different between right and left sides. I did not find any decent replacement after-market struts available and I wasn't interested in changing to coil-overs. The official Lexus part number is 48530-80037. I purchased a pair of these online for $267 via Amazon. Figured I'd stick with the factory units for another 120K miles.

A pair for $267 is not bad. I found each for $261. Will check on Amazon.

I'm not home to check my receipts, but certain year Gs rears will work with the Sc. I put Bilstein rears for a Gs on my Sc & I purchased them from Parts Geek. There was a big discussion back in 2012 about doing this, after someone reported that they had used Gs rear shocks, you might try searching for that thread & seeing if you can come up with it. I think about 5 members tried the Gs rears & had no issues, to my knowledge. It will be late tonight before I get home, but I will check my receipt & post the part # tonight or sometime tomorrow. I'll be able to tell what year Gs rear shock works on the 2002 Sc also.... I took this pic when I was installing the rear sway & you can see the yellow Bilstein with my lowering springs mounted

Texsexlex, I have been following your posts and researching the use of Bilsteins from the 1998-2000 GS300 on the rear of the SC430. I saw some posts where it was recommended to cut 1.25" off the bump stop. Did you do this on your installation? As I remember the posts, there was some confusion about cutting the bump stops. It seems cutting the bump stop was necessary if you were installing the GS300 Bilstein shocks in conjunction with lowering the car. As I remember it, you were retaining the stock ride height. Is this correct? Also, some posters were having trouble using the spring seats which come with the GS300/Bilsteins due to the springs on some years of the SC430 were a different diameter than the seat which comes standard with the GS300/Bilsteins. The answer for some was to contact Bilstein and order a set of the spring seats which come with the front GS300/Bilsteins and using them on the rear because they matched the spring seat diameter on some years of the SC430. Any help you may offer will be much appreciated. My wife's '05 SC430 has leaky rear shocks so I need to find some shocks to put on it. My plan is to only replace the shocks, not the springs.

....ok guys this is the Bilstein that I used....part # W0133-1911223 Sport Shock....using the Parts Geek's website. It says that this shock will fit 1998-2005 Gs300 & 1998-2000 Gs400.....now to try to answer a few questions.......I did not cut my bumpstops & can't remember why this was recommended. I did lower my vehicle at the same time of installation, but used Tein Sports, which lowered the vehicle 1.50-2 inches. The shocks bolted straight up with out any issues, so not sure why some had issues with the seating of them, unless they possibly ordered for a different year GS300/400 than what was listed or their Sc was possibly a 2005+. CL member Barcardi, did send his off to Bilstein, to have the compression rate adjusted to the stock Sc shocks, but I did not. I also think that his vehicle was lowered, but less than an inch. I ordered mine 1/21/13, so probably received them within a week or two & installed shortly after. So after 3 1/2 years, they are still holding up & I haven't encountered any problems with them. I wouldn't think that not lowering your Sc would matter with the installation of these or any shocks, but someone with a little more knowledge on this matter, might chime in on this.......by the way thombiz, what part of Texas are you located in ?

I'm located in Corpus Christi. Not many SC430's in town. Thanks for info. I'll probably put the Bilsteins on in a couple weeks and will post the outcome after the install. I really appreciate your posts on this topic.

I checked partsgeek and found both Bilstein and KYB rear shocks for 1998 GS400. Guess both will fit the SC430. Thanks for the info!

I also checked on KYB shocks and KYB's part number for a 2000 GS300 rears is KYB Excel-G 341267 which translated to Partsgeek part number KYB W0133-1610040. Partsgeek's number for the Bilstein Sport shocks for a 2000 GS300 rear is W0133-1911223. The Sport Bilstein shocks are fairly stiff, so I checked to see if there was a slightly softer model and sure enough, there was a Bilstein B6 HD model which had a more luxurious ride.

One of the places it was available is Sport Compact Warehouse: https://sportcompactwarehouse.com/bi...us&Model=GS300&
and the HD's part number for a 2000 GS300 is: Bilstein 24-027441 B6 HD Shock 46mm Monotube Shock Absorber. I've always liked Bilstein products so will probably go with the Bilstein B6 HD 46mm shocks if I can find them at a good price. Shock Warehouse has the HD's for $129 http://www.shockwarehouse.com/index....cted_year=2000

Interesting info concerning using Bilstein struts. When I went to their WEB site to look up my SC, here is what I found :
http://cart.bilsteinus.com/search/mm.../drivetype=RWD
Think it might be worth a call to them to find out why they don't list any products for the SC430 if they have items that fit.

...if I remember correctly, someone from the forum that owned an older Gs, found that some of the rear suspension for the Gs & Sc shared the same part #'s from Lexus. He was able to replace some parts for his Sc with Gs parts, because no one had listings for the Sc, but many companies listed parts for the Gs. I'm thinking that since the Gs was produced first, Bilstein probably made a shock for it, but never produced one for the Sc (per say), not knowing that both cars shared almost the same rear end setup. I'm not 100%, but I think I read also that the rear suspension changed in 2005 for the Sc & this may be the reason, for not being able to use the Gs shocks in later model Sc's
