Is it possible to swap the old iPod connector in the glovebox for a new one?
My 08 460 has the iPod connector in the glove box, not sure if all GS had this or if it was an option, but I always use it to play all my music, anyway since it's the old wide iPod/iPhone connector, I'm wondering if the cable could be switched somehow to a modern iPod/iPhone cable since they've made they're plug small on all the latest iPods/iPhones, or am I stuck with only using an old school iPod.

If it's the black 30-pin cable, I don't believe you'll be able to directly swap the existing cable for a Lightning cable unless you've got a Lightning cable that has this
on the other end, since there's no USB on the back of the nav unit.
If you're not looking to add a USB port, easiest thing to do would be to stop by Best Buy or Apple Store and pick up a 30-pin to Lightning adapter. Otherwise, you'll need to install one of the vaistech iPhone integration kits.

Ah I kinda figured it would be something along those lines, any idea if a new iPod with lightning connector will still work with the head unit with the adapter? Like the shuffle and select song and all that?

I can't see why it wouldn't, especially if you get the official Apple adapter. All the adapter does is convert the analog 30-pin signal to/from the digital Lightning signal, so you shouldn't lose any functionality with it. And in the off chance that it doesn't work, you'll know immediately to walk right back into the store and return it, so no harm done

The only thing you might lose is album art. Audio should play fine with the adapter. Although I'd suggest getting a 30 pin to lightning adapter with a wire lead before the lightning connector. Most cases wont allow room for the wide smaller adapter.
With the newer iPhones/iPods some wont allow video out through the lightning port.
Its very annoying, how Apple does things the way THEY want to do them and not consider what the consumer wants.
Try finding something like this-

You can use the 30 pin bluetooth receiver sounddock.
