Magic question.....what is the likelihood of being able to update the '16 or even prior models to use Scout? Wasn't it available on earlier Avalon's?

Before jumping up and down from joy over this news folks might want to check the reviews on the Scout link app. The general consensus is that it is pretty much the worst app on Earth or close to it:

Toyota needs to stop futzing around and implement CarPlay and Android Auto like most of the other automakers already are or have committed to. I give them one, maybe two more model years before competitive forces leave them no choice but to do so.

After reading the terrible reviews about the "Scout" GPS system that Toyota plans to sell on the Lexus cars, I'll wait until I can get a system that uses Android Play whether it's a Toyota system or after market. A read of the reviews is a must. According to those unfortunate people that have it in their new cars it is useless.

Lexus has stated that a new "neutral" API for interfacing is their nav integration of choice. I think that stinks, too. However, BeatSonic is working on getting Apple CarPlay into Lexus vehicles. Looks great and is available on the GS, I think. The ES is coming--I think for any '13+ models.

I believe my kids new VW Golf R simply links to his fun and allows him to run Waze through the car system (among other apps)

I just spent 30 minutes trying to find it, and I don't see anything on their website (other than the demo from January). They have a blog entry about mirroring your iPhone on the screen, but doesn't seem worth 360 (plus install if you don't want to do it yourself). I wish all of the car companies would implement Car Play and Android Auto and be done with it.
