Default 2003 Gx470- full tank digital mileage range

I have noticed that there seems to be a discrepancy between the analog and digital meters after filling it full tank. The analog dial during full tank indicates just what it is on the dashboard. But lately, the range digital indicator meter is not showing the corresponding mileage. It used to show the 340 mile range on a full tank of gasoline but now it is just indicating 250 mile range. Am I a little bit "nut" to observe this change, or this is just a quick fix. My gx470 is year 2003 with 92k miles. Any advice of quick trouble shooting is much appreciated. Thanks.

Have you reset your average mpg on the dash? It factors distance based off that I think.

shouldnt have to reset anything in order for the computer to calculate miles to empty.....mine always goes back to about 340-365 after a fill up without reseting any of the other parameters.

Default RESET ECU or Disconnect Battery

Mine did the same thing and use to show 250 miles at full tank but i had to disconnect the battery for something and after re-connecting it started showing 344 miles Range.

Try that.
Good Luck.

If I'm off roading and getting 8mpg in 4low crawling over rocks all day, I have to reset my average MPG meter, otherwise my truck bases distance to empty off of the 8mpg average at the next fill up. You very much need to reset it in a situation like that.

FWIW, I've NEVER seen my DTE meter give me over 300mi, lol. Mine almost always says 250-275.

When you disconnect the battery the range will reset to approx. the 340 range then after a few tank fills it will settle down to the 240 to 260 range I have this same happen to me. There is nothing wrong here the range just changes based on the fuel consumption. If you did a battery reset then drove only on the highway your range would stay on the high side once you start city driving the mileage goes down so does the range. Nothing wrong here its normal

i dont know...i do a mix of suburban and highway milage....i rarely reset computer except maybe out of curiosity on a long trip...my computer always resets to about 360 after a fill up...and if i drove the truck to total empty on all highway, thats pretty close to an absolute full tank of gas. i have never seen a number of 240-250 after filling up.

Hard to say who is right. My 2004 has always been this way. Disconnect battery and the reset is 340 to 360. After a few tank fills goes down. I have spoke to other owners and the answers have been similar to mine. When I do a full up I reset the mpg the e/t and any other resettable value. after fill up it shows the 260 range. I never let it go below 1/2 tank so I don't know what range a fill up after empty would bring. I guess my range could be off but others have same. Any one else with a 2004 that resets to 360 after fill up ?

Hi guys,
Can someone tell me how to replace the fuel gauge sender unit. Do I have to drop the gas tank or is there a port hole to access the fuel sending unit. Where is the fuel tank in the GX470?
