Default 98 GS400 gauge fuse keeps blowing

I have a 98 gs400 and today the gauges died on it. After the car was shut off and restarted it would not allow you to shift out of park. Used shift lock release to get her home and found the 10a kick panel gauges fuse was blown. Replaced it and fired the car up. Gauges came on for a second and then went out. Car would shift as normal. Turned it off and it no longer shifts. What would cause the gauge fuse to blow? I have thought about trying a higher amp fuse although that is not the greatest idea, especially not knowing why it suddenly is drawing more than 10A.

Ideas?
