Default Get added to the 2016: NorCal Meet / Event Notification

Hi All,
I have been organizing events for NorCal since 2001, but for several years now I stepped down and I have passed the torch to other members.

We used to have mini meets ( 20-30 cars) at least once a month and we used to have larger meets (125 - 200 cars ) at least twice a year.

It's a bit sad to say that the level of participation has dropped considerably in recent years, however I ASSURE you that there are active members still meeting up on a regular basis. Some of the OG members actually have their own private gatherings that don't get posted. The KEY issue is that the newer members have notably less participation.

We see that part of the problem is that new members tend not to check the NorCal section often and so the event is missed or they don't have enough heads up to schedule time off, so we have come up with the following solution:

We now have an Automated Event Notification System.

Click the following link to be notified in advance by text message when the next event is coming. No need to check the forums looking for event announcements!

- The automated event notification system will send texts to everyone individually
- This is not a group text. You cannot reply all
- You have the option to un-subscribe at any time
- We will ONLY send one notification per event
- We will notify people of an event typically 4-6 weeks in advance
- This system will be used primarily for key events
- We expect on average 5-8 text messages for the entire year
- All notifications will point you to the ClubLexus NorCal forum for event info

Thanks to the 124 people who have registered so far !

There ARE many active and interested people in NorCal. BELIEVE IT !

All YOU need to do when we txt notify you of an event is to COME OUT !

Hey All,
This post has had 200 views as of today, but the response on my PM is less than 10 people.

There is a large Lexus event being proposed before the end of this summer. It takes a lot of time and money for our potential sponsors to plan and allocate space so this notification list also becomes a feeler for us to estimate how much interest there is, so that we can forecast to the event sponsor what the turnout could be.

Whether it's 30 cars or 100+, we just need to find a venue to accommodate the response. It's not easy to get a sponsor to commit their venue and space, without some commitment from "US" to gauge the potential turnout.

It's up to EVERYONE to show your support.

I welcome any comments or suggestions on this thread.

Thanks

Wow, I usually check up on ClubLexus at least once or twice a day to see what's new. But to be honest I haven't bothered checking out the norcal section in a long time due to inactivity. It's great to see your trying to help revive the community that newer members have yet to experience and I really hope that we can get something going.

As for suggestions, I think it would be great if you posted over on the Facebook page too. Since a lot of people use Facebook and they are more likely to check their notifications. Can't wait to see what we can make of this!

Also it may be a good idea for mobile users to install the Garage Talk app on their phones. Usually keeps me up to date with the threads I follow and alerts me when I have a PM.

Hey Tim.

Thanks for the suggestions. We will explore our options. Funny thing is some people don't use Facebook, and others don't check it either.

Not everyone is as dedicated as you. That's the problem with too many social media options.

Been there done that. This is why we are trying to come up with something new and effective.

You can pm me your cell and we can chat further if you wish.

Yeah it's a sad truth, especially when you look at other forums for Nissan, Hondas, etc.. But i know there are still Lexus owners who are into their cars as much as I am. But even with Facebook not working entirely as originally planned, it still seems to work better than the Norcal section on the forum.. I'll go ahead and PM you.

Hi There!I'm hardly on here. For some reason I personally feel FB is a more convenient social media app to organize events. I used to be an active member in the E90 forums BMW group prior to my Lexus and I have to say event organizers always went back to Facebook to set up an event page there as well. That being said, I may not be active in this forum but I am very much active fixing up me and my gf's car... Lol.

Looking forward to the next event

Thanks for your input.

We know the effectiveness of Facebook, but we've found that some people don't have FB, while others are inundated by the many car groups and other social groups.

There is great value in FB but there is also value in forums that Facebook doesn't do as well.

We will leverage FB for its advantages, and use the Forums to compliment our other needs.

Well good luck with the house.

I'm thinking once you have a house, you will usually get mail offers for car loans. It's funny that they don't give home loans if you have to many payments, but as soon as you own property, everyone wants to loan you money.
