Why did Lexus install plastic fenders on the 2016 RX???
It looks so cheap for a 50k+ car. Went to look at a new one today and instantly a turnoff. One of major reasons we didn't get a nx is bc the plastic black fenders, now they have it on the RX

They look great on my Black Caviar RX. Like the other posters said many are doing the same. Could be a durability thing. Do a search as we had this discussion months ago when the 4RX first came out.

One advantage is that they will not get dinged up by car doors easily

manufacturers of suvs add the plastic around wheels to qualify for "utility" status. Has something to do with gov regulations, category cars fall in, and maybe epa expectations, not sure.

The Corvette is nearly all plastic and it doesn't look half bad. Welcome to the future.

Agree 100%. These are Lexus's and they have a thick black plastic strip covering the wheel wells. Previous posts, I have never ever had a wheel well rust nor had a ding on that part. This along with the two tone seats will keep me from buying the Newer models. Thanks Lexus for saving me $$$$. IMO looks cheap.

The good part of the removable fender guards is that aftermarket ones can be made for off-road or body-kit styling. The BMW X5 comes with them but they are painted and more flared:
You can always have them painted. I've seen a handful of owners do that already:
